Vettel won the race....the end..... Vettel was lucky to end up in first after the VSC...i can recall a couple of races last year where the safety car benefitted hamilton. it happens...that being said the best driver ever to race in the best F1 car ever made had 20 laps to pass an inferior driver in an inferior car.... that my friends is what you call karma. who got the smile wiped of their face today?

Apparently, Ferrari was running way less wing (relative to Mercedes) to be more fuel efficient. That is probably why the Ferrari in qualifying (and the race) lost that much in the corners and was quick on the straights.

Melbourne is very heavy on fuel.

Mercedes are very strong, but the gap might just be a little exaggerated.

As for the race... almost typical Melbourne. Mercedes was vulnerable by only having one car at the front, Ferrari gambled by leaving Seb out and got extremely lucky. Gutted for Hamilton, after such a flawless display to lose like that is a hard, but it will make the season more interesting.

Both Ferraris looked much better on US vs S tires. Any guess about that?
Did long VSC/SC period helped Ferrari with fuel?

People being fascetious to each fans of different teams is so annoying. It’s the only sphere in the world, as adults, where acting like children on a playground is considered normal.

Sure, today was lucky for Ferrari - but luck goes both ways. It has worked against them in the past, it worked with them today.

Both Seb and Lewis drove amazingly at the end.

I think merc is well and truly ahead of the field on raw pace. I think Ferrari and redbull are neck and neck. I think there is a lot of untouched potential left in the Ferrari which (depending on whether they’ve got on top of their in-season development shortcomings) will come to fruition as the season unfolds.

All in all, apart from Mercedes 1-2 every race, it should be an interesting season! I feel for HAAS. Would have been an amazing start to their campaign.

Vettel struggling with the pace, even in the race he couldn't actually keep up with Hamilton nor Raikkonen.

It's true that Vettel wasn't really making any inroads at Raikkonen in the first stint but he also wasn't losing that much time. But I just can't see how you can say that when you consider Vettel's and Hamilton's pace after restart and how they gapped Raikkonen and Ricciardo

Hamilton pressured Vettel for several laps after the restart before dropping back. He eventually finished five seconds behind the Ferrari which Mercedes said was due to high rear tyre wear.
“I think he knew that he couldn’t push any more because it would have ruined the tyres and he wouldn’t make it to the end,” said Wolff.
aaagh so what REALLY happened was Hamilton chewed up his tires trying to get within range of vettel who did a masterfull job of doing just enough to win the race.
