Video showing Gasly's STR13 nose cone hole covered with what looks like a plastic bag. I wonder what kind of effect this had? Probably minimal but it does prevent air from entering the vent hole as well as disrupting the smooth flow of air beneath the nose. At first I thought it looked like a damaged nose tip. Gasly and STR Honda had an unlucky weekend to say the least...

Considering that there weren't MGU-H failures during testing it seems like a durability issue with the PU when there are external forces and impact. This was an issue last year and it seems the current spec PU still has the same issues. The newer spec and bodywork can't come soon enough.
Barcelona is supposed to be extremely smooth with nice civilised kerbs. As Bottas found out to his cost Melbourne has higher kerbs.

Worst case scenario is that Melbourne has exposed a serious design flaw Barcelona didn’t, and it will take weeks, months for Honda to find the issue and effect a solution by which time both drivers will have gone through their annual allocation of engines. And/or they lose red bull.

Best case scenario is that this is a freak failure or a batch problem.

There is no need to blame any of both. Mid level chassis 4th level pu and a bad race. It will not be so bad next races but they are not so good as we see

Bahrain is going to be a difficult one for TR again. High temperatures and also high braking loads. China will also be painful one. Seeing the car lock up multiple times at Australia doesnt fill the driver with confidence.
However there is potential to unlock once the chassis balance and tyres is better understood. Also hoping its a case of new Mguh for Gasly. The engine was running when he made it back to pits.

The major issue with Honda is the lack of resources in to f1. They are a huge company with massive resources but they are using f1 as a test bed and it is reflected in their record since their return.

There is only so many times you can give excuses. Fourth year since their return and the pattern of failures is the same. MGU-H bearing issues caused by mainly heat and oil seepage have been plaguing them since time immemorial but they have failed to get on top of those despite a 100 counter measures, the words they love to use .

Honda need to divert more resources and try and poach engineers from rivals to fast track their learning because without 100 percent commitment in terms of resources and personnel they will struggle. Without ERS efficiency they will struggle in races a phenomenon Mclaren suffered in races in the last three years.

Toro Rosso have given Honda full freedom in terms of installation, space and cooling yet if they have reliability issues in the very first race it is a big hit. Remember in these power units once MGU-H fails the turbo also fails. This is going to be a really challenging season for Toro Rosso and i hope Honda manage to turn this around but i waited for three years in blind hope it never happened. Hopefully Toro Rosso are more lucky.

One thing is certain Red Bull main team aren't going to be anywhere near Honda in their current state.
Everyone is saying that for years, but it simply won't happen. Honda wants to do it their own way.

Now when my head is cold I can say that the our biggest problem are New drivers. If Team dont get clear feedback they dont know in what way to setup the car.
Sory for my bad english

That was an unlucky weekend for STR and Honda. Hartley had an issue with the tires blocking on the first corner, and then a puncture just before the VSC, so he loosed a lot of time. But the pace seemed to match or be a bit ahead of Sauber, Williams and equal to FI.

I hope it's a "isolated" issue from Honda, no way all testing went reliable, and then now all start to break like last year... So let's wait a little, until the european season. The next races will be hard, but I think they knew it, and If we think on cold, we knew too

I'm saying they have work to do to improve the overall package, but the season is long.

Williams and TR are in the same boat. Rookie drivers learning circuit and its traits, not understanding setup direction and to make matters worse, the basic chassis is not stable.
The car appears to have a longer wheelbase and now the engine is further back than before, the whole vehicle dynamics will take few races to optimize.

I dont believe it was a reliability issue. When Gasly touched the curb, he bOunced and probably dented/damaged his PU on the way down (maybe MGU-H)

Integration is one thing, but optimization is another one. It will take some time, even McLaren says there is a lot of potential to be unlocked because of the switch to the new engine. I imagine it's the same for Toro Rosso.
