McLaren screwed up on strategy. Should have kept Fernando out on Mediums on a 1 stop strategy, to take P4.......
They could have, but he wouldn't have gotten 4th or 5th, best would have been 6th... Maybe he could have beaten Hulkenberg..
Correct... Except that HUL stopped so he would have been quicker also. This was the safer strategy

On the negative side, they're slow getting away from slow corners. Which I'm concerned is mechanical grip from the rear suspension. I'm not sure they can fix that this year.

Race 2 - Mission accomplished!

3ird in constructors !!!!! ahead of red Bull!!!

Great strategy! great work by Vandourne finishing right behind Alonso.
Good Execution by pit crew!
Finished ahead of Red Bull and split Renault, Haas and RBR (with both drivers).

McLaren race pace is better than qualy. Definitely the positive as they were right there fighting with renault and haas.

If no one crashes out based on qualy abd race pace. I see Gasly ended up 7 with Alo and Van round out the top 10.

good race, alonso is alonso, and that made the difference.

like i said before, car is draggy as fukk**, maybe 2 stiff suspension not giving the mechanical grip ,

who knows... but yeah kimi out, 2 redbulls out, one haas also with damage... otherwise around p10... and honda p4 with a rookie lol ... they need a to fix a lot of problems

maybe after barcelona normal big update they can clean some of the dirty downforce and be more efficient.
Because the gasly result was on merit and he did not benefit from those same retirements?
My thoughts exactly.

Umm if Riciardo did not have an electrical failure and Verstapen was not a YOLO kinda a guy Mcl would not have been anywhere near them, so you may have stated facts, but that does not mean it's the natural course of things that usually happen in a race given Mcl pace...
Team Fernando!

Yes, at least in reliability wise

Good recovery from an awful starting position. Race pace looked decent, and close to Renault. I'm much more optimistic than I was yesterday. Long road to go, but despite the lack of qually pace McLaren have a good haul of points. When that pace comes, it will also pay dividends in race trim. Not sure if the rear suspension is fundamentally flawed, probably still looking for the right setup with such a big change.

Far from great again, but they were in the position to grab the most they could grab. Race pace is as good as a Renault. If the trio would not retire they would be in 10th and 11th - yes, but jet again u have to finish to get the classification.

There was so much mockery with their problems with pitstops during testing, and jet they did solid work in two races. There was so much mockery about technical problems during the testing, two races in a row and both cars finished. Today STR was better, they achieved what Mclaren was unable to achieve with Honda in 3 years and people are allready happiliy trashing Mclaren as useless team, even though they are current 3rd in the championship. Ofcourse they wont retain the position, and ofcourse they dont jet have a great car, but they are doing the job they are supposed to do. They are collecting points, and they are able to gain and retain positions on track.

This season will aparently be very track related and we will see different teams to shine on different venues, which is good.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

All true. That said, "to finish first, first you have to finish". At the end of the day both Red Bulls and one Ferrari didn't finish. IF Mclaren are actually telling the truth about their expected pace and the updates bring them more into contention with RBR later in the season, then these early points will be priceless.

Come season end, not many people will care how they got the points.

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Fantastic result given the qualy this time around.

Before Australia I was hoping for both cars in the points for the majority of races... so far so good.

Happy for the TR boys too, I know what it must have been like after Australia. Hopefully they can finish close behind McL from now on
