Not penalizing the team more for running over one of their employees is what's retarded!
Penalize them? What for? Would you penalize the Cowboys if one of their players got hurt? Should the FA or UEFA have penalised ManU when Zlatan got injured? Don't be silly.
No no no, its not silly. You should be penalised for an unsafe release. And they don't come much more dangerous than that. Someone had their leg snapped because someone screwed up. It calls for a penalty to try and prevent it happening again
no, the though impressive, but very unsafe 'lightning fast pitstop' procedures are the problem.
there are really 2 solutions to the problem.
1 is a system where a pitfloor mounted 'jacklift' raises the car and the only way the car gets dropped is when all 4 wheel guys press a handheld button that it's safe to go. then the car drops immediately and the driver is free to go.
the other one, is a simple total 'pressure' relief system, in the form of a
mandatory 5 second pitstop minimum time. in other words - if a car is stationary for more than 5 seconds at their garage, they get a penalty.
that takes off a lot of haste and pressure, and is fair and equal as everybody now gets the same chances, including 'smaller' teams. there is not really a downside to it, as everybody will have to deal with the same issue.
ok, there are some minor downsides - you can calculate opponent pitstops better, but again that goes both ways.
it would have a serious impact on tire strategy though, as you now have to calculate 3 seconds extra to your benefit window from getting fresher tires. but then again, the same goes for all teams.
the 5 second rule would be the easiest fix. it would cost no money, only save money because teams don't have to train like marines or soldiers on XTC to get insane speed levels in replacing the wheels, and all along, under pure job pressure to perform, all the stress that accompanies this, would thus see a huge relief in human speed, aswell as usage of tools and materials. it would minimize chances for stuff like that happened to haas last gp for example,
and would surely avoid a situation like with ferrari in bahrain.
the jacklift would cost a good additional amount of money, so i don't think that would be the preffered choice.
