Read the news item here. I am very pleased that Spa has been saved for some more years. No idea how much the Belgians had to pay to get it. It is may favourite track and has produced some of the most thrilling races. =D> =D>

Very good news. We can't let any of the "old" races be lost - the sport needs them. Spa is also one of my favourite circuits and it will be even more entertaining next year with the big reduction in downforce
spa is as close as we are going to be allowed to the old style race venues
it is good to see it secure for a few more years, never witnessed a dull race
there in the 17 years i been watching F1
I wish Bernie would have invested some of the money that goes into his pockets and into banks towards saving the Nürburgring Nordschleife. That really is the epithome of a majesctic race track. You can easily have a race with 100 cars on that track without feeling crowded.
The racing of the 24h and the 1000kms is also great stuff.

Problem is with the Nordschleife is that if they did adapt it to cope with modern F1 cars (removal of big bumps, jumps and big run-offs) it would be a shadow of what it is now. I think it should be left as it is now, as it was many years ago. So many modern tracks have been neutered to cope with the Health & Safety culture we have. Boo
the racing seems to work well for the existing events. one of the problems is the short duration of the F1 races.
also at Monaco you have not much better safety. I could imagine some ways to race F1 on the Nordschleife.
there could be solutions to all the problems.
more money for TV installations and helicopters
multiple, airborne medical teams
state of the art catch fencing and double layer Tecpro impact barriers
special scrutineering rules with mandatory minimum ride height
longer race between 500-1000 km with adaptation of tyre, engine and gearbox rules
and of course some improvements to track smoothness and run off where needed.
it is a question of wanting to make racing more interesting in terms of venues and scope. having an endurance race that forces engineers to widen the spec of F1 would be a nice technical challenge. of course that is an issue to improve fan appeal and not an issue that would interest the commercial side.

Spa is definitely one of my favorites, and I always look forward to the race events there. She's a grand old lady, and still retains the flavor of pure motor racing.
Talking about the Green Hell, now that is a very special bit of track. Absolutely nothing like her anywhere. I figure I've done somewhere between 200 and 300 laps there in my racing simulator, and each corner is an event. I find myself either holding my breath, or hyperventilating. When I stop, my eyes are large and round, glazed from the adrenaline, and pure joy of hustling around the great Nordschleife.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.
