Is that small rod between the mirror and the winglet above there for legality or structural reasons? Just curious.

Without that rod. Winglet above could vibrate heavily so definitely for structural reasons

From my POV rather the mirror box would vibrate more than that winglet. Anyway, with this rod they both will be more stable and work much more precisely.

Yep. I saw this picture wrong. Definitely mirror on this ASSY is main source of vibration. Having this rod make this while ASSY more rigid

It's the same - otherwise they wouldn't need exactly the same fairing tabs to hide the floor strakes when viewed from above.

So mirrors were not broken after all... and strakes are still on top of mirror cover piece... who knows if they will ever move them on the top winglet now (if they will not ban them)

I think the old location is there in case they want to revert back to old design mirror as you said or it is a chassis used before with old mounting points still present. Could be with newer chassis later in season that plate could dissapear if new mirrors work as advertised. We'll see.

PS: To which car are the mirrors fitted? Both cars or are they going to do comparison runs?

The FOM (?) randomly decides which team has to run the mirror cams, they cannot have those cameras on the halo mounted mirrors, so if they have to run with cameras they have to revert to the chassis mounted ones

The new thing has been on the Mclaren for months now, not that big of a deal (in terms of people analysing it, hopefully it's big performance wise).

Isn't it less of a deal because all parts of a car need to fit together to build a functioning package? Especially when we speak about a pretty important piece with big influence like the floor. So in order for the other teams to copy it they must change a hell of an amount on the rest of the car too?

Not necessarily, that pylon is/was shaped according to overall flow in that zone, most likely enhancing downwash tendencies of top inlet.

About those winglets on the halo, are they more for flow conditioning or vortex generation? They look like they'll create vortices aimed at the rear wing endplate? Possibly to cancel out rear wing vortices and reduce drag?

It could be, but it's more likely that all this air (including the vortices) ends up under the rear wing in fact. Rear wing vortices are strongest vortices on an F1 car and on most race cars in general, it's not really possible to cancel them out.

The more I look at new mirror fairing design, the more it looks like it's properly designed now, compared to launch spec. There were some inconsistencies concerning inner "cone" design and outer fairing, now they seem like a proper match. Goes to show how close Ferrari was with their design to make them ready for winter testing and first races - suggesting their benefit is big enough to make a difference.

I'm hoping to see some more barge board development for this race, other than some new pieces on the floor and tee tray.
