Were they really faster on Softs than on Supersofts?

As expected, Mercedes used Mercedes-tailored tyres by Pirelli here. No other team could heat these SS tyres up, so they had to use softs.
AeroGimli.x

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

I'm wondering why they use DRS on the out laps of tyre heating is difficult. Wouldn't the added DF at speed heat them in the perfect manner?

Never expected that after Q2, credit where credit is due great lap from Lewis, Valteri and Seb were not that far behind in the end.

Its set to be an epic race. I hope it is safety car free, and high strung intensity until the last corner.

I think you gain extra speed - extra kinetic energy to go through the tires in the braking zone, so I don't think it would make sense to not use DRS

I'm wondering about a different thing, if they can't get the SS up to temp in 1 warm up lap, why not do 2? too difficult to judge traffic?

Whats interesting to me is that Mercedes both looked suspect on the softs.....the SS will not be seen again this weekend and thats the only tire Mercedes has an advantage on..Mercedes Tires =Mercedes pole.

Obviously favoring Mercedes right there. As it was announced that Pirelli would change the tyres after Mercedes had asked for it, other teams complained and told they didn't have any problems with tyres. So why change it then if the majority was ok with the situation?

Pretty odd seeing both Ferrari and Red Bull resort to the Soft tyres. Mercedes are in the pound seats now, track position is king.
