Was the crash so severe or is the back end of the STR flimsy (potentially compromised bc of late PU change) ?

Turn 9 is near flat out depending on car/driver with not a lot of runoff area too. Fairly substantial crash and lucky to only come away bruised.

Exhaust only, engine is deeper. The turbo wont fell out if the engine not thrown.

When the rear end came off, it pulled off the turbine/wastegate exhaust manifolds. If your familiar with the Honda PU architecture, they use the split turbo design with the MGU-H in the middle, compressor/turbine hang off the ICE. If you look closely you can the spindle from the gearbox protruding.

The accident recorder provided the following data. The impact with the tail ahead was 110 km / h. A delay of 25G was measured. On impact, the tail of the Toro Rosso hooked up with the Tecpro elements of the barrier. The car broke apart between engine and transmission.

So what are the thoughts on the pull rod suspension layout. It's very rare we get to see how they are designed anymore as they're deep in the gearbox casing.



It looks like they have 2 connections between the left and right hand torsion bars. The lower one could be the damper, and the top one looks like an anti-roll bar, but the way it's setup is backwards so it looks like it would induce roll?

The topmost one looks to be a rigid link that locates the distal/immobile end of the torsion springs. Changing the length of that member could alter ride height; whether it is changed out frequently or a permanent structural member, I don't know. Further in from that piece is the heave element. ARB might be tucked away in there but I can't make it out.

The wishbones also look like they have a very thin internal main structure with a hollow aerofoil cover.

Can't be surprised, its the gearbox and rear suspension. Although they did have to modify the gearbox to bolt on the Honda PU, I wonder if it means anything?

Toro Rosso has brought a new floor update to Monaco ahead of the race weekend. Gasly will get use of it from FP1 on Thursday, but teammate Brendon Hartley will not get the update until final practice on Saturday.
