I still expect Alonso to stay, why say goodbye to all those millions. He also lives for racing, while F1 is still the highest level of autosport. Vandoorne will probably be replaced if Alonso stays and will make place for Norris.

I think the future of Mclaren is Stoffel Vandoorne and Lando Norris. Doesn't make sense to think of replacing Stoffel when nobody knows how long Fernando will continue to race for.
Mclaren have admitted they haven't done great with their young drivers, since Lewis. But these guys have moved and improved tremendously as drivers. Look at Checo, he's done well in FI and his stock has risen. KMag is coming into his own, so they shouldn't be too hasty with Stoffel.

If Alonso wins lemans this year, I think he will move to Indy full time next year.

Me thinks Fernando will drive Indy in 2019 but return to F1 in 2020 or 21.
He is like vine.

Unless it's driving for Mclaren in F1, I don't see him returning to F1 once he leaves even if he wants to return. I don't think any of the other teams are really interested in his services.

I think Alonso & Norris will share the car next year in order to leave ALO some room for his non-F1 adventures and give Norris some experience.

You'd think that if Norris would be in the car next year, they would have loaned him out to STR to get some F1 experience this year.

Apparently, STR wanted a deal that would include the 2019 season. Problem is, Mclaren haven't decided their 2019 line up, they want the option of having him available to be called up next year, if the need arises.

Do the other Merc teams get the updated engines at the same time? I would imagine that the engine count per season forces that to be the case?

If it has slowed down Force India a bit in Montreal, then it is a good thing.

it's still good, because it means the Merc units will be a baseline to see what kind of improvement Renault gets on track.

I suspect the Mercedes powered cars will turn down their engines a bit, due the the mileage on them.
