LOL indeed

its not like they couldnt have had the fees paid as part of the contract
non issue with absolutly no sympathy from anyone

aside from that drivers couldn't even agree on what day to race unless somebody told them

Super Licence Price Hike

Post

Previous to 2008, superlicences cost drivers just 1,690 euro plus 447 euro per point scored in the most recent world championship. But the World Motor Sport Council in January approved an increase in the cost of a superlicense to 10,000 euro with an additional 2,000 euro per point scored in the previous season.

Whats your view???

Personally i think its a good thing to deter those who want to buy themselfs a drive in F1, but those that are in good enough and experienced enough should pay a reduced ammount.

Why penalise success???

Is this Max getting his own back at the drivers over "Max-Gate"???

there is a thread about this issue. viewtopic.php?p=76965&f=1#p76965 perhaps the moderators can join it.

The FIA Institute for safety in motor sport spends millions per year in the interest of driver safety. The drivers do indeed have a lot of input there as the institute listens to their suggestions and conducts research directly related to their benfits. Drivers have never had lower risk and higher pay than at present. It is fair to ask those who are sucessful and wealthy to contribute to the future safety at a higher rate than before.

its simply a funding issue

Max likes the idea of money coming in so he is going to fleece the teams some more
i say teams as any driver dim enough not to have a points bonus in his contract is probably managed by his father

i cant see ANY problem at all with it.
i mean these drivers are getting paid like millions a year.
and they cant even come up with half a million for safety?
this is absolutely ridiculous.

Debatable point being that the drivers should be able to afford it easily, but is FIA not rather well off as a body so where would the money be going. FIA licenced panels, safety devices, no doubt impressive membership fees for teams. Also seems just a tad above the (current) rate of inflation? Maybe FIA should charge FIA badged fuel duty the way the UK government does - that should help the F1-going-green issue as well as raking in a fortune...or have they already done this? Seen the price of unleaded at Silverstone?

If the GPDA announces a strike, it'll be a grand opportunity for Hamilton to say, "Sorry, not GPDA - I'm scoring". Same for Raikkonen, probably.

Every F1 driver needs a super license in order to be allowed to participate in a Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend. The license costs would increase to 10,000 euros per year plus 2,000 euro extra for every point a driver scored. The costs used to be just 1,725 as a fixed fee and 456 euros for each point.

GPDA director Fernando Alonso was quoted by Autosport.com saying: "It is a very serious matter, and we were talking about (the) super licence price in the last couple of GPDA meetings. It has to be agreed between us, and we all agree that it is not fair that from one year to the next it (the cost) increases 500-600 percent.

I doubt that such an issue could lead to any form of a strike. The drivers may whine and complain, but in the end, Bernie gets his pound of flesh, as always.

it wont happen

they (just like the teams) cannot agree on anything as personal
fortune is way more important

people forget to be a racing driver you have to be selfish in the extreme
and normally not a nice person to boot, the teams know this and hide it well

nice guys dont win F1 championships

is kimi a nice guy, hard to tell but defo a rare one

I thought it is the FIA that sells the super licenses?

I understand from teams in other race series that all manner of components (eg. touring car non-factory homologated body panels/splitters etc) all have to be FIA approved and these approved items cost a stonking amount for certification. Or is someone talking out of his exhaust?
I suppose the simple fact is how else are the members of the FIA executive to pay for their orgies (remember nazi uniforms are extra!)

I think it's a stupid scheme, but it' also stupid that the driver's are whining about it now. I was announced months ago.
