it seems to me that mclaren is going to expand into indy with fernando alonso, all under the protection of zak brown and andretti

a move like this would mean fernando leaving F1 at the end of this season, but of course fernando will try to milk as much money as possible from such a deal

considering all of the above I think it is safe to say mclaren wont win an f1 race under the current regulation.

moreover i think that the problem with mclaren is zak brown, since i do get the feeling that he runs this team more like a business in search of expanding instead of a racing team.

one of the symptoms of mclaren being run as a business instead of a racing team is all the bad decisions regarding the honda deal, in which they sacrificed development for short term gains to image and performance.

and when performance is under expectations, people get fired and used as scapegoats or they point fingers to others.

What I noticed is that on his PB lap alonso was 7 kmh down on the long straight compared to his previous run in Q2. What's that supposed to mean? Both laps below.

Second q2 lap (PB)

I just watched Ham v Alo, what was really interesting was how rough the Mclaren was over the kerbs. You can see the car struggling and bouncing around a lot more. It looks like the car is really bouncing up off the kerbs, much higher than Ham, particularly at 9 and 14. In fact 14 requires a lot of adjustment to keep the car out of the wall, looks like the left side is in the air for a little while. Anyone else see that?

It's interesting to remember Landos remarks about the car being more unforgiving, can't recall if it was between the noses, or this and last years car, I think it was between noses. There may be a low speed issue with the diffuser, but that car looks unstable at times. It looks like it is running a fair bit stiffer than they would like, but having no choice but to use the kerbs.

Not sure the telemetry in this video is accurate. The official figures by FIA tell a different story.

Well, that's something Zak Brown said himself recently. They are reorganizing for 2021 and are currently looking at everything that needs to be improved, including staff and facilities. These changes will take time.

The telemetry is accurate, just don't expect it to be in milisecond sync with where the car is on track. Originally aired telemetry is 1s ahead of the car itself, so I try to sync it as best as possible.

The numbers in the FIA document you've linked to are not relevant here. They could be achieved at any point in the qualifying, not necessarily on the fastest lap, as we've already discussed some pages ago.

I don't give away IP, sorry buddy, I frankly don't care if you take my word for it or not, I'll just say I've seen something similar before.
Who asked for IP? I asked if you have a credible source that told you this, and that has access to information that is not available to the public. I take it the answer is no. Which is OK, but I think you would do well not to present your speculations as fact.

of course they don't. The video is the best lap time not the fastest speed lap. The top speed is the fastest speed for that car at that point for the whole hour. The speeds will vary from lap to lap, they likely occur in Q1 when there is a high chance your following someone.

This isn't the first time Mclaren decided to use an oddball rear suspension design. They've had slow speed issues in the past as well.

The Vandoorne pitstop was a massive blunder.
It didn't cost him anytime. Was under the safety car, he was gonna be last anyways.

I'm not speculating. The credible source is my proprietary software, works pretty well I think.

When I looked at it up close, it really isn't that different from last year. It's just the "Y" has changed where the "v" starts. That resulted in the arm getting thicker too. The geometry looks the same.

In Canada, the traction didn't seem to be a problem. It was more the speed drop coming into the corner. ALO often dropped his speed further down. Like he was worried of understeer.

The traction might not be a problem because they are potentially running more wing to cover the issue.

The Mclaren has a very benign handling, but it's slow everywhere, those are usually the toughest cars to fix.
