Michael Schumacher quits!

He has called a press conference on wednesday, the first day of testing at monza. This has risen some rumours whether he would be quitting F1. It would certainly be in line with his sad face at the press conference and him being so quiet after winning the title. Also Ferrari has said they will make some changes to their staff and working methods in the remaining five races. I know that's a bit far off, but I'm optimistic. Maybe now that he has his historic seventh title in his pocket, he feels there is nothing more to achieve, and he wants to finally spend time with his family instead of travelling round the world and getting scorched by the media, and then risk his life on the track.

Hopefully his press conference will be short: "I quit."
Would be interesting to see who drives the ferrari next season if he decides to quit. An interesting twist would be to see Mika Hakkinen drive in his old worst enemy's colours.

I really dont think Mika would drive for them, he seems to have integrity and I dont think that after years of despising Ferrari, he would come back to race for them, whatever they were paying. But I agree with your sentiment, I would love to see him retire. Maybe he can go and play soccer in the park where someone else can make him look totally inadequate.

Don't see Mika going to Ferrari.....but what do you all think of a brazilian line-up? Rubens and Massa?

A fantastic option would be Villeneuve going to Ferrari and Mika on Bar.
That way we would have Raikkonen+Montoya on Mclaren, Webber+Button on Williams, Villeneuve and maybe Trulli on Ferrari, Ralf and Coulthard on Toyota. Some very interesting pairs. Especially Kimi&montoya and Webber&Button will be like Senna&Prost times two. It's going to be a very interesting season next year. I suggest Michael quits while he still has a reputation. Next season if Mclaren and Williams get themselves together there won't be any room for michael on the Podium. Add to that Bar's rising speed and possible Hakkinen connections next season, not to mention Toyota's rise with their first Gascoyne designed car and improved driver lineup. Mix in Renaults talks of winning the championship next year, and you have a very interesting season ahead. It's going to be crowded on the top.

Now get Jacques in that Ferrari, I might even think buying a Ferrari shirt then

oh well it doesn't really matter I can hardly believe Micheal is quitting at this stage. If it would be for his world titles he could have quit last year too.

Where did you get this idea? I thought he was disappointed because his car wasn't set up properly for Spa so he had to drive a "sh*tty" car.

Well in any case even if he announces he will retire before the end of the year he will compete in Monza....for the goodbye win at Ferraris home.

It's what he does ... it's what he has always done ... it's all that he knows to do ...

It's his life man, you can't just tell someone who's 36(?) years old to stop racing and roll over.

Ego? Hardly these guys are nuts, they risk their lives to go as fast as possible, I really don't think ego has anything to do with it, as far as I'm concerned they are all in a league of their own and have nothing to prove, I'm sure most of them see it the same way.

It will be interresting to see what happens. Maybe he'll get his kids ready and there can be another Schumacher spree in say 10 -15years from now

maybe the sad face could be due to he was beaten fair and square and ruined his championship party coz he couldn't seal the championship with a BANG! haha

indeed, the sad face was for not being able to win (he admitted that during the wednesday conference). it seems that MS is just announcing that he will be committed to more racing...

i dont want michael to retire . . . i want him to be beaten. preferably by alonso, but thats a minor detail.
