2018 McLaren F1 Team - Renault

I had a long phone conversation one time with an aerodynamicist from the Renault team back in 2007 under Flavio Briatore, and the gentleman was very clear as to what was happening inside the team that stopped the forward progress of development. When I read the Glassdoor reviews on McLaren, it reads as if the same people that caused the issues at the old Renault team are now in charge of the new McLaren.

How is it that ALO shows up here from LeMans does no Simulator, never raced here before but still out qualifies Vandorne who spent hours in the simulator?

Was ALO slower in quali than he might have been if he had time for the simulator?

First of all , do you believe what everything mclaren is the truth. how many times can those mclaren people fool these fans , is just amazing, some fans fall for these mclaren claims. It just not one problem mclaren have , it has several issue. and not an aero only issue.

This also includes the Automotive and MAT reviews but still gives an indication of what people think and feel working at McLaren.

I wonder if one of those accounts belongs to Ron Dennis.

You would certainly hope that your head aerodynamicist might have an idea of where a small scale wind tunnel model can diverge from the track, and why. I don't know if it is really an impossible and hard to detect problem or if they are making excuses. The former is quite possible, but with this team, so is the latter. It's hard to know really what the hell is going on, or who to believe.

I don't think they lied to us. I think they were just wrong. there is a difference.

Things are never as good as they look when things are going well and things are never as bad as they seem when they're going bad.

My experinence in following teams in trouble says its easiest to blame aero for its problems.
Its much deeper than that....its money, its aero its mechanical its menagment lots of things.
Mclaren wont recover any time soon.

If there is some mysterious shenanigans happening with the barge board, i guess that if the new nose is channeling some more air in that direction then it may have made it worse.

But after testing and after 7 races how the hell can they not see the issue? I wonder when they realised that they had a divergence between reality and the wind tunnel. Possibly after fitting the nose and doing aero tests in that area?
