both gas and hartley did low fuel runs and gas was faster. evven the race simulation again just like all other races so far gas is about 0.5 to 1 sec faster. its not rocket science to figure out that there is a performance difference with both drivers

Are they comparing the update to Gasley's time, or to Hartleys time (calculated of course)
It would not be much use if they compared an update to an unknown.
well obviously if they are comparing the update on hartley , they will compare it with gasly laptime because gasly wasnt running the update. i just think what james key is thinking now, because gasly without the update still manages to be quicker than hartley
So they know the estimated time difference between drivers, so they get double the testing done.
Yes it is calculated, but everything is right up until they race it
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

hartly was not faster than gas in monaco neither in canada. canada gas did not run the latest spec in qualifying, he was using the old spec., even though gas was quicker in all sessions in china leading up to qualifying, hartley managed to out qualify gas. ok i give him the china qualy but in the race again gas was the faster driver. so really its only one race he did manage to outqualify gas but his race pace is terrible in all races compared to gas. its a no brainer, time for a change in toro rosso. they cant be loosing points with a handicap. they need two good drivers

GAS should avoid first lap crash we need to see the spec 2 race pace in an actual race not starting from the back of the grid.. today he was racing the spec 1 come tomorrow flawless Q and Sunday flawless race pls mr GAS.

In Canada Hatley out qualified gasly by 6tenth the pu upgrade was only worth 3 tenth therefore he was faster, in Monaco has was faster in all practice sessions but traffic prevented him from putting a proper lap in quali

Jonathan Eddolls (Chief Race Engineer):
"The Austrian weekend is a great event on the F1 calendar and the home of Red Bull. There had been a lot of discussions over the previous days with respect to the weather, as we had originally thought FP2 would be a washout and a chance of rain in both sessions, but eventually we had a dry FP1 and FP2. Being such a short lap, the sessions feel very busy with little room to breathe between laps and runs – it's also quite a technical track so it's beneficial to give the drivers as many laps as possible. We came to this event with a new aero package, which we fitted to Brendon's car for today. FP1 was spent testing various options of aero configuration with him, to confirm both the wind tunnel and CFD results. So far, from the data analysis, the package appears to be behaving as expected and we are seeing the gains, so the plan will be to fit this to both cars from FP3 onwards. Pierre spent today's first session carrying out mechanical setup work and starting to understand the tyre behaviour, so we had a good direction for FP2. This track is tough on cars, particularly given the number of exit kerbs, the yellow sausage kerbs are quite harsh as well, so with both drivers pushing hard and using every last part of the track we sustained some damage to bodywork components. More significant was the trackrod failure in FP2 at the end of Pierre's long run. He was closing the lap and coming up on the two Force Indias - who were just starting their laps - when he had a big front wash out from their dirty air and hit the yellow kerbs. This overloaded the trackrod and caused the failure. The mechanics did a great job to get the car repaired and back out on track for the long run at the end of the session, so Pierre wasn't compromised too much in terms of track running. Given that Pierre didn't complete a lap on the Ultrasofts, his pace is looking competitive so we are positive looking ahead for tomorrow. We have some work to do to give Brendon the car balance he needs, and that will be the focus tonight in preparation for tomorrow."
Tomorrow the 2 cars will have the upgrades

Gasly running the old aero package with old spec engine was 0.5 second faster than Hartley. Cant make this up. Frustating as competition would be beneficial to Toro Rosso who soon will prolly fall behind Sauber.

Maybe Hartley will find some time...maybe. I'm still waiting for him to have a straight forward weekend. Gasly is looking competitive. Put the full package together and he might be fighting it out for best of the rest with the Haas.
