Big differance. Is McLaren's too "simple" ??
It looks more complex at the top. As far as the bottom is concerned, you might be able to tell with flowvis. I don't think the "diffuser" is the problem. I think the feeding of the diffuser is more likely problem.

Really nice shot of the latest encarnation of RBR mid wing/bardgeboard area.
Notice the raised floor section has, what I call, "T-tray air catchers". As the air moves from center out from the T-tray those teeth catch it. They probably also generate vortices. The McLaren Version doesn't have any teeth and only has 1 collector at the far right.

We also see the 3 chicken wings who job it is to grab some of the air coming around on the front of the bardge board and send it under and feed the floor.

I am starting to get a little concerned about how the driver gets in and out.
OK, they can jump out, but they will soon need to stand on a box and jump in.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

They already have a special made 'box' to get in the car. I think every team has one that fits nicely in the bargeboard area.

New brake duct design tested in Austria. Probably 3D printed too.

i still dont understand they need doubble the inlet size compared to most others? everyone has blown wheel hubs so its not that, mclaren should really look at refining this area, like other teams, also mclaren are the only ones not running vertical spoon shaped flow conditioners underneath the brakeduct, all top teams does, maybe they should take a look at that.
And like mentioned, they should look at adding those "t-tray catchers" everyone gained from adding those

Not everyone has blown axles. Ferrari, Merc and Redbull certainly don't. They're having to sort aerodynamic issues that came as a result of change in the design philosophy so only then can they start developing. It's all discussed here few pages back.

He is talking about blown Front Axles, not Diffusors.

But Ferrari and RB have them. There is surely a reason the Brake Duct is that big, it's just odd because the others manage with smaller ones.

Maybe Mclaren just puts more air through the axle then. Bizzare since others deem it not worthy.

There is an impeller inside that housing, who knows what theyre doing with it.

Did Alonso run just the wing from last year?

Or did they reverse spec other aero parts like the bargeboards as well?

Anyone got the numbers? Curious to see if he was faster or slower with the old parts.

Alonso was consistently lapping from mid 1:09 to low 1:10 which is a few tenths off Grosjean's average pace. That's pretty much all the data there is.
