There is a t wing shaped object on the engine cover now, check McLaren's twitter. Either a sensor, or they have found a loophole

Wouldn’t say so, they’ve had gearbox-related issues for the past few years now.
I'm pretty sure they said the gearbox was originally designed for the Honda engine, and retrofitted to the Renault PU. There's bound to be compromises and weaknesses from that.
when would they update it then? 2019?
Proper job? Yes.

Did they show anything new during this test?

Alonso went the first 7 races without an issue.

If Alonso retires on the 2nd to last lap when he's out of the points and they say "gear box" I would take that with a grain of salt. Not sure why Vandoorne has been played by them so much.

So you recon both cars have had several gearbox problems, but also suggest it is Alonso retiring voluntarily when he´s out of the points? #-o

I think he is suggesting they're retiring to circumvent the 7 race gearbox rule. If the car retires, they're allowed to fit a penalty free new gearbox at the next race.

They have to prove the retirement was gearbox related before they can change

Edit... or maybe just have to prove there was a genuine reason for not finishing

I don't remember Alonso having "several" gearbox problems. I know he had the one in Monaco for certain. I seem to remember a 2nd one. Yes, when retires when he's out of the points, I wouldn't read too much into the reason they claim he retired.

I'd be surprised they have to prove anything but I could be wrong.

2 are not "several"?
