If the Ferrari barge-board area is the chiseled arm of an elite athlete the McLaren one is a gimped baby arm.
Just look at it! All stunted and stuff.
I truly think that's the key to the next few years of development to be honest. No other area is as free to be developed, other than the diffuser for the foreseeable future. The front and rear wings will be much more simple brute force devices and not too much difference will be possible other than the inboard area and how it interacts with the nose.
The only limit coming to the bargeboard next year is on the height of the leading edge, the part close to the ground is still free to turn into a wing like Red Bull and Ferrari have done.
Some here claim that the lower height of the bargeboard will be a major loss of downforce, but I'm not buying it, maybe it hurts teams that depend on having the bargeboard connect to the chassis like the McLaren more than Red Bull or Ferrari.
