“I was in the DRS of Gasly at the beginning of the first stint but I couldn’t overtake him. I couldn't even get close to him with DRS, so I think that shows quite a lot that Honda has made great steps forward,” Ericsson explained.

“I still believe that Mercedes and Ferrari are the two strongest power units but then Honda is a lot stronger than they get credit for I think. That was confirmation of that when I was racing them.

“Like I said I couldn't overtake Gasly even with the DRS and Hartley could overtake us, so I think that’s a fact.”

Having made a successful pass at La Source, Ericsson admits he was taken by surprise when Hartley out-dragged him with the aid on DRS along the Kemmel Straight to reclaim the position just moments later.

“I didn’t expect him to be able to pull past with the DRS but the Honda is better than many people think I think! So they were not too bad,” he said.

“But then when I cleared him it was all about trying to catch Gasly but our pace in the second stint was very similar."

I'm somewhat surprised too, I did not think Gasly could be in front of Sauber.

I think had Leclerc been in that Sauber, it may have been a different story, but still a good showing from TRH. Ricciardo, Alonso and Hulk may have spoiled the points score if they were still running too, but I wonder if Gasly could've just held on??

I'd like to see Ocon get a drive and would happily see him in the TRH next year? if weight is a factor then Ocon must weigh less than the taller Kvyat??

Honda has competed with the likes force India & sauber in Bahrain & Canada & were competitive Honda lacks nothing in terms of horsepower, people speak of Honda like we are still in 2015 . They will best of the rest in Monza because it's a combination of slow speed corners and straight, Renault and Mclaren has no chance.Str is poor in circuits were aero efficiency is important, but people conflate that as an engine deficit.

Lando is McL driver, yet they still tried to borrow him. If Ocon is without seat, why don't TRH borrow him. Win-win.

Perhaps Williams is the absolute last resort. Ocon might be better missing rest of season than rotting in Williams.

Kubica is the only name mentioned for that seat if lance goes. What would ocon do other than just prove he is faster than serotkin.

Ocon path way should be
1- stay at force India
2- McLaren
3- Haas
4- Toro rosso
5- Alfa
6- sit tight left everyone remember how good you are when they are searching for a driver next year.

Ocon apparently had a seat fitting with Mclaren already, but it appears he's too tall for the chassis, so may not be able to join this year. It would be difficult for Ocon to go to STR, because Red Bull won't want to develop a potential rival for 2021.

The contract was only an "option" for 2019, it wasn't a firm seat for Red Bull and it had an expiry on it. The strength of a contract is determined by the terms.
