McLaren MCL33

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Good picture of low downforce RW.
Is it just perspective, or do the endplates go inwards?

Haven't they changed the angle since that photo, I'm sure I've seen a skinnier wing

Yesterday Alonso said They were testing Singapore spec and they were very slow like mobile chicanes...
Thats why You saw this higher DF rear wing. I believe They tested new floor too.

Let's hope for an improvement in Singapore. It's tracks like that which they need to capitalise on.

Unfortunately it isn't because they have great foresight that they are testing everything trackside, it is because the wind tunnel results don't reflect what is happening on the track. They are in fact sacrificing race weekend work to correlate future updates and settings.

I disagree they all test future packages in advance on track.

With 3d printed models, many of which don't work? I feel McLaren are doing it to a much greater extent. But I haven't followed the other teams in detail so maybe I'm wrong.

Nothing better than real-time data.

Are there any big upgrade packages planned for the rest of the season?

Depends what you consider big. There isn't going to be a 0.5 sec upgrade but there was a substantial one in Hungary two races ago. New front wing, floor and diffuser etc.

Mclaren's biggest challenge is the lack of technical leadership. James Key is not going to join them this year, and now they are supposedly talking with Pat Fry to have him re-join. Who is going to define the concepts and design for next year's car? Totally unclear to me.
