Pat Fry is a mistake.
Why?
Because GoranF1 says so. He's the specialist on this forum.

Would be great if it was a rule not to quote this guy so I can't read his posts. Bit of a flaw in the ignore function.
Finally, everyone knows that Red Bull is a joke and Max Verstappen is overrated.

I would have agreed if Key wasn't coming. He's just a stop gap, not a long term solution.

I thought Fry was replacing Morris long term?

Mclaren, also very focused on the development of the car next year, which, from the latest rumors from Woking, would seem a clear step forward compared to the disappointing MCL33.

Not sure about that but he is a stop gap for keys ...kind of like he was a stop gap for Alison at Ferrari.

Key is being brought in as a “Technical Director” whereas Fry has been announced as “Engineering Director “. Whether that is actually two separate roles or whether it’s just lip-service time will tell but if the Fry-led MCL34 is a relative success then you have to think that McLaren will find a longer-term position for him alongside Key somewhere within the engineering team.

Fry has the same designation as the man he is replacing, Morris - engineering director. He will be leading the chassis design for MCL34 along with Andrea Stella. Once Key arrives he will be working under him. Fry is not a stop gap appointment.

Key replaces Goss and will be holding newly created "technical director" position. He will be the No-1 man on the technical side, the final decision lies with him as far as technical matters are concerned. This is what Mclaren has lacked since they moved to matrix system. Now they are shifting to a pyramid system.

Gil de Ferran replaces Boullier in a newly created sporting director.

After Key's arrival Mclaren structure will be more streamlined.

Key- technical director

Peter Prodromou- CTO Aero

Pat Fry engineering director.

Andrea Stella performance director

Simon Roberts: COO, in charge at the factory, logistics and production.

Gil de Ferran: Sporting Director.

Fry is not leading chassis design. Ingham and Oatley are responsible for the design for the MCL34, Prodromou for the aero. Fry (together with Stella) leads the developement of next years car, superior to the design and aero team, a job which Key will do for the MCL35.

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply he was leaving after ...I have no clue

I meant, he was a stop gap as Technical director till Keys got there. In the past his roll as Engineer Director has been a transient one(well at least at Ferrari). Maybe 1 year. It wasn't announced in advance as such back then either. So I have my suspicions that it might be the same.

I'll believe it when I see it. That entire article has nothing to substantiate the last paragraph which is rubbish.
