It was a fuel sensor not reading, but they had to remove the back end to get to it. Fuel pump itself is fine apparently. Just a time consuming job which is a shame.

Gasly was out running again with 15 minutes left on the clock. A reasonable lap, 3tenths down on Hartley. It seems the spec 3.0 delivers. Let’s see tomorrow.

With Hartley in the top 10 in P2, Gasly should be able to make Q3 with no issues.

It's unfortunate that there have been car issues for Gasly but nice to see Hartley smiling in the pits after Fp2. Gasly should be able to make up for the time loss but perhaps this weekend will be one Hartley earns some points for the team. We need to come out of the weekend scoring more points than Sauber.

Does anyone know if Hartley and Gasly are good rain riders?
Gasly has said last week he hopes for rain.
It would be a pity if they end up at the back because of the rain,
now they have a better engine.

I think they aren't allowed to speak about the progress.
Yamamoto was asked about the progress this year, but he didn't give an answer to that either.

Edit, I just read his statement. He talks about the difference in performance with the spec 3.0 in Sochi. That could be ..........sec.

The context is the improvement in the spec 3.0 from Sochi to Japan so not only the driveability is better but they have extra maps and extreme settings. If they already had 0.5 gain from 2.0 to 3.0 in Sochi then they must have found 0.1 to 0.2 more here.
If it rains tomorrow they should be able to match their best quali. Im hoping the car update in Austin is equally impressive.

If the 0.2s improvement is compared to the first SPEC3 in Sochi it's amazing. I cant wait to see their real perdormance in Q2 perhaps Q3

Unfortunately it seems Gasly was experiencing power loss and increased oscillations in his PU during FP3.
It didn't seem that things were resolved seeing how far off the pace he is. Probably safe to say Gasly's weekend won't be competitive and we might even see him have to revert to the older spec PU for quali and the race. Hopefully Hartley can fight for points and fend off the Saubers and McLarens.
