New Teams

Post

Following Super Aguri dropping out of the Championship this year, what is the news on new teams joining the F1 grid?

I remember hearing lots of rumours about Prodrive joining last year?

Now we are down to 10 teams, are we likely to start with 10 next season?

Far as I know, Prodrive won't be joining in 2009, as they couldn't come to an agreement with McLaren about the suppler of a chassis I think?

If they don't join, it will be interesting to see whether there are any other teams ready to join.
The only thing that looks pretty certain is that the current 10 teams on the grid will be back next year, i.e. none of them look in any type of financial trouble etc...

Someone correct me, please:

1) I thought the date for applying to race next year had passed, with only 10 teams signing up? (I know, probably just a formality, but there does not seem to be any sign of an 11th team . . . )

2) Isn't 20 cars the minimum? I believe Bernie promises the race organizers a field of 20 minimum? So if the world economy should cause Red Bull or Kingfisher to pull out, we could have 3- or 4-car teams from the survivors?

There where a lot of teams interested in joining f1 but after the prodrive case I don't see real chances for a new team.

Talking about redbull, his B team is for sale so it's probable.

For some reason, I don't see the STR sale happening before 2011. Unless Prodrive were to buy into that team, and replace the Ferrari engines with Mercedes plants...

Who knows?
