Sometimes I think Renault spends all of its meager ressources on the intake plenum every year. They completely change its design every season (and the part is getting wierder and wierder every year), while the Ferrari, the Merc and even the Honda evolve more smoothely :P

The 2018 PU is much more chassis-friendly, atleat compared to the last ones IMO, thanks to that low intake plenum and because the PU is probably "smaller" than the 2014-2016 PUs.
And the new oil tank is very different from the usual 2007-2017 reversed-bottleshaped Renault oil tank.

The exhaust manifolds are so outboard compared to the other 3 PUs where primaries seem to hug the cam covers.

Did Merc not say at the start of the season that they gained 0.25 s or so from the aero benefit of wrapping them tighter around the engine?

Maybe it has to do with how they are entering the turbine?

These two engine in the Picture have different cooler Layouts. The air chanel from the airbox inlet splits into two in the front engine.

I'm going to guess blow off for the compressor. It looks like the two waste gate pipes are at the top. You can see the compressor outlet? at the lower right with the plug in it. You can also see the turbine inlets; top left and bottom right on the turbine housing. So that's my only guess given the sizing and location.

This engine looks oversized Tim Goss was lying when he said they is some packaging advantage in having turbo at the back

Technically he didn't lie, but he's far from the truth as well. Renault layout gives more room between driver and engine than the Honda layout but sacrifices above, behind and overall weight balance of the PU.

When you sign with a new engine provider and want to give hope after bagging your current supplier, you tend to forget to mention the negatives...

It's still the old one that is 5kg heavier. RBR never switched to the new K.
