Mercedes AMG F1 W09 EQ Power+

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Are these just the people that work at Brixworth ?

along with Toto and the drivers.
That is the HPP site so I'd guess that's the PU arm of the team, yes.
Only PU?! :wtf:

Are there about the same number of people in the other areas of the team?

There is more people on chassis/operational side of the team (Brackley) than on PU side (Brixworth).

Brackley - more than 700 people:

In five shifts, more than 700 employees work 24 hours a day, seven days a week on design, development and manufacturing activities. More than 250,000 working hours go into the design of a Formula 1 car, and a further 200,000 hours plus are spent on production.

Brixworth - more than 400 people:

Today, the company employs over 400 talented people in the design, manufacture and testing of Formula One racing Hybrid Power Units for the works Silver Arrow team, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, and partner teams the Williams F1 Team and Sahara Force India F1 Team.

Here is what the Red Bull headcount looks like - 793.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/csylt/2018 ... bd81d363f7
Its costs accelerated 14.8% to $366.4 million (£279.4 million) in 2017 with the bulk of that spent on the F1 team. Research and development alone came to $141.5 million (£107.9 million) and increased by 10.5% on 2016. Red Bull Technology also boosted staff numbers which rose by 35 to 793 giving it salary costs of $108.7 million (£82.9 million). Red Bull ultimately owns the company and gave it $123.5 million (£94.2 million) last year which is an increase of 20.4%.

And that is without engine development?

That's right. They are not a PU manufacturer. So that headcount is just the racing team.

I can't find the article, but Ferrari has a similar structure to that of Mercedes, with two different teams on Racing and PU manufacturing, which accounts for around 1200 employees altogether. I have an old link though, from 2013.

Bild said the new factory will boast three storeys to accommodate Ferrari's 700 staff who work exclusively for the Formula One team.

Come on guys! This is a thread about the actual car and here you are going into team numbers in Ferrari, RBR, and Merc team. NONE of this is relevant to the W09, so can you just drop it and post purely on the car?

The people in the picture also include the automotive division (who do the hypercar PU + other bits of engine development for Daimler) as well as the newly created Formula E electric motor team.

Have we seen teams do this before, running a race with pitot tubes on the floor like that?

I don't think so, and seems this: Motorsport.com: Sensor trick could give Mercedes edge in F1 tyre test agrees. Apparently only on Hamilton's car (which I suppose will be the one they use for the test then), but expressly meant to allow them more data from this test. Cheeky.

How would the pitot tubes help in tyre testing?

I always thought they were just for aero analysis.
