Renault Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

Similar Renault does not even have a quali mode that is one of the biggest gripes Rbr had with them.people seem to underestimate Honda this the company that according to Max their built up to 2019 from October last year to March this year they are spending more money than Renault spend in their entire season. They also have fantastic facilities that nobody can match Honda from 2015 started with a smaller mguk , it took Renault 5 years or more if you consider they were racing during the kers years.

Surprisingly, I hadn't seen below article until yesterday, don't know if it has been posted before, but it's allegedly quotes from Cyril and a response from Marko. I have to say, it's a great soap opera.

To me, this means that Renault's gains for 2019 are greater than any projected development from Honda's spec 3 engine. If Honda's improvement over spec 3 is linear based on previous data, Renault will be ahead of them at the start of 2019, except that gains aren't linear, and it may be that Honda improves more than Renault, and it can also be that Renault and Honda are more or less on even footing in 2019.
It's delusional. If that article is fact, Abiteboul believes Honda haven't moved. Is he being intentionally dense?

But then there is another article Abiteboul claims Red Bull obligations will slow Honda development down due to reliability requirements. That in itself is an admission of their fast progress.

I never know with this dude. The way he talks, the fountain of baseless rubbish and media pandering, you'd expect Renault's power unit to be the fairest of them all.

If they only brought meager updates to the car, then I suppose all the resources were dedicated to implementing Budkowski's knowledge into the 2019 power unit. Spec C may have been just something they slapped together to get a baseline. People forget that this man knows, to a certain extent, what everyone including Mercedes was up to. I still think Honda will develop faster because they have Toro Rosso. The Honda engine was strong on some tracks, mediocre on others, and still terrible on others. The Renault seems to have a more consistent engine and while their MGU-K is bigger than Honda, their ERS still seems to be better than Honda on at least half the tracks.

I imagine that Honda and Renault will both have made nice jumps over the winter, but we won't know that in testing because of the nature of the circuit. Harvesting enough to deploy lap after lap is relatively straight forward these days. Barcelona is a total package circuit, not so much an engine circuit, and although the engine is obviously important, the differences between the power units is muted by the demands on the chassis.

renault have a new engine test bench. This should help them greatly. I wouldn't put it past them to have a huge improvement this year. They seem to be very hungry to improve and are making all the right big investments.
For Sure!!

Where did he imply Honda doesnt move and wont move? IMO he said the 2018 gap between them was already substencial and since Renault will make a big step this winter (according to him but also according to more neutral/objective/credible people) he thinks Honda could stay behind. :P
Back to topic: new PU test bench https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/14122 ... evelopment (or is this still OT?)

This prolly means that the claimed 50hp jump will only be available after the summer break once they have done the proveout in this new test bench. Its only available after Feb.

As for their superspy, he would hardly be able to produce drawings of the competitors. Besides the guy is an aero specialist dont expect him to understand the inner workings of piston engines.

Found a rear view of the 2017 engine displayed at the Paris motor show.
Exhausts look fake (no race exhausts) but turbo might be the real one. Twin entry turbine

No, not really, I suspect Goran is trying to be amusing.
The engine mapping isn't even signed off on yet, even Mclaren don't know exactly how much power they'll be starting the first GP with.
