Thanks @ ispano6 and @Snorked.
Yamamoto say that although some people say Honda is already ahead of Renault, but he dont think so,because the result of race is all in the sport and Renault finished 4th in the season.Only when Toro Rosso can beat Reanult during the race weekend regularly,he can say honda is ahead.
But this is silly. Seems like pathological self-deprecation. The engine is just one parameter in a car's performance. So Marko may be right in saying Honda is past Renault.

Might as well be Budowski with a little black book having Renault see the light and suddenly decide to abandon/ditch the existing engine concept and build a new engine on a totally new concept.....in all silence last season....
It would be quite a scandal if the Renault PU suddenly became the most powerful for 2019...

('cause no sensible manufacturer would apply a new concept for just 2 years unless they knew it would pay itself back.)
?
No reason they wouldn't since the current one sucks... Besides teams pretty much re-design the whole car every year, even if the concept remains the same.

I think it would be great if Renault found a good power gain for 2019. With Honda and Renault getting closer to the big 2 we might just have some more competition again. And hopefully on saterdays too.

Don't think about it.
Merc & Fer are top. They are too advanced to get caught by the other 2 manufacturers

Not just PU, but pretty much everything but the power steering system.

Budkowski has been privy to information and access to rival facilities that gave away some of their secrets and advantages.
He has been coy about the situation(paid well enough to keep quiet) and other teams have voiced their objection too. No amount of gardening leave will erase the important bits Renault was after from Budkowski. The objection voiced by other teams is more than valid.

“I had three months' notice, and we respected that even further, because we took [an extra] three months in Viry, which were removed from any activity.

“Whether it is enough or not is not for me to say, but I didn’t have any conscience issues about that.

“It is moving so quickly in F1, that stuff gets obsolete so quickly and to be honest, the controversial stuff from last year? Most of it got banned anyway. All of the exotic suspension systems etc., they was all banned.

“So this stuff that I potentially had access to that might have been controversial, actually it doesn’t exist on cars any more this year.”

Ah ... I somehow have the feeling that Renault has made a very decent step (thanks to Budkowski joining them). Though he is not a PU-expert, but it's very likely he has got a looooot of information during his work at FIA.

But I hope Honda has made even bigger improvements, because this Abiteboul-talk should finally come to an end.

No doubt this kind of knowledge will help, but I think one mans info doesn't make a power unit make miraculously more power. Stating that would be an insult to all the dedicated specialists. Sort of knowing what your opponent is doing is 1, but replicating it is something different.

Due to his past position he would also know why some things have been disallowed. In cases, it is quite possible that only a minor alteration would make them acceptable. Something possibly as straightforward as repositioning it or reshaping part of it in such a way that it is no longer in contravention.

As with many things that have to pass a regulation, the way in which it is presented is a major factor in if it is accepted or not. He should know this to fine detail. Not saying its unfair, but is fair in the way tax avoidance is Ok but tax evasion is not, and the line between them is fine
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

This guy wasn't a nice fellow in Toy Story...

Anyway. I think the Value that Budkowski brings is not the design parameters or the radii, because he doesn't have those numbers in his head, but he would have seen the level of infrastructure at the teams, the types of technologies and techniques used and possible a cursory estimate on the level of investment. This general info is actually golden information for Renault.

Amazing how open Honda is with their PU to show it in public compared to the other 3.

Doubt they would do that if their engine was the best...

But team boss Christian Horner says hopes are high that Honda has hit its targets and that it can at least make progress in 2019
***
While relations between Red Bull and previous engine partner Renault collapsed into acrimony, Horner has faith that the relationship with Honda will not play out in a similar way.

"It is a very different scenario," he said. "[We have been in] very much a customer supplier relationship where effectively we were paying for a first class ticket and you get an economy seat.

He also said that Honda has made reasonable gains over the winter, which is good and to be expected. He said he's more concerned with performance than reliability at the moment and is willing to take strategic penalties through the year.
Honda!
