McLaren MCL34 speculation thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Probably a bonded nut in the composite on the other side, the bolt is likely to be an Unbrako 12.9 or 14.9 - they're the go to for things that aren't having custom fasteners for F1, anything lower spec is extra weight for nothing, and SCC isn't really a concern at all.

Do those fasteners use a nut on the other side? Looks to be a 5mm Allen head 10.8 grade fastener. Torque spec on something like that is probably 8.7ft lbs.
It does look like his fingers are grasping something on the so probably yeah.
I often wonder if weight is considered when choosing bolt and nut combo vs studs, or self locking washers, and if propensity for loosening due to vibrations is also considered.
Taking weight and vibrations in condideration, there's nothing better than anaerobic adhesives / sealants.

In aeronautics, specially in turbine engines, is usual to make extensive the use of titanium in bolts and nuts (as in compressor / fan blades).

I am far away from top mechanical engineering, but this looks like an aluminium washer used between the nut and the bolt to me. The same way that cars have it at the oil collector on the bottom.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

The first thing that comes to mind is the inlet in the engine cover.

First through the air intake above drivers head.

Second I think is "fuel cap" position. Where they will sip fuel in

Alonso might be testing today the MCL34 on the simulator as he is at MCL headquarters

He's probably there for the Indycar but I wouldn't rule out sim testing the new car.

I was thinking it was the intake above the driver's head as well! If it is indeed an intake, I'm wondering how much bigger this one is in comparison to the MCL33's because its intake was considered to be a smaller one when comparing it to the competition.

A follow-up to the gold on the chassis debate, here it is being applied on the Mcl32's fuel tank region.

In entirety, it extends to the sidepod region as well.

That seam's not straight. Ron Dennis wouldn't have stood for that, remake the chassis!
