Alfa Romeo C38

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

My first impression was that the design might have some particular behaviour when the front wheels are turned (particularly airflow pattern around the outboard wheel), but I've since changed my mind.
Very interesting development though remains to be seen if it will appear in Barcelona testing.

This is the Alfa Romeo "2019 Contender" offical car thread.

Please discuss ONLY technical items of this car, and refrain from speculation.

General discussion about the team, its drivers and performance can be posted in the team thread.

Livery Talk also belongs in the Team Thread. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=27827

It means if people want to talk about the livery (the paint job and sponsors stickers) they need to do it in the team thread, and not the car thread. This is currently the car thread and is only for talking about technical items on the 2019 car.

Ok guys... you know what?

Maybe - i wrote maybe! - that void will be filled with some special shaped flow conditioner from monday on...
something they choosed to not reveal today.

In fact, i am very suspicious about the simplicity of the wings seen up to now.
I expect everyone to reveal something much more advanced in that particular area.
Me too I expect a lot of iteration to get the most out of the new style front wing.

Radical FW, looks like a wing that broke down.
A bit chunky around the hips.

Not about the Alfa but in general, it seems like the Red Bull interpretation of the Ferrari sidepod idea won the war.

I don't understand the front wing.

Seems like they will lose a massive amount of front downforce by essentially running half the front wing of their competitors?

This is an interesting concept. Easily duplicable, btw
Might not be easy to duplicate if the other teams have designed the rest of the aero based on a full front wing. If Sauber have done something "clever" then they might be alone with that idea for some time to come.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

I don't know if that front wing will stay that way or if the Alfa crew are laughing their ar*es off at us tonight but it's very refreshing to see something really new! =D>
Seems like a long time since I saw anything this far out design-wise.
