Interesting strategy by Ferrari? I wonder what they’re testing, considering usually times like these come in the afternoon, or even towards the end of the first test. It’s very strange for them to be so far in front...

Either they’re doing the standard systems tests and when they turn the wick up they’ll be in the 1:15’s, or they’re chasing speed very early...?
Considering that they launched with minimal aero appendages, it might also be possible that they are establishing a baseline on all fronts to compare new aero bits/configuration for the 3rd and 4th day of the testing.

why are those shitty t-wings coat hangers back?
They were never really gone. Last year they already had lower T-wings, and with the reduction of rear downforce this year they are trying to recuperate whatever they can. T-wings are kind of low fruit really given their low aspect ratio.
With the rear wing being lifted higher up there is more reason to work the air in that region. I wouldn't think they actually generate down force with the T-wings or coat hangers or whatever, more directing airflow to improve the diffuser and rear wing.

That is being often said, but from what I gather they are mainly there for cheap downforce. Because yes, although they are not big wings and thus the amount of downforce is limited, it still produces something for very, very little drag. Of course they will help shape the flow inbetween the rear wing and diffuser, but from what I heard it's downforce as the main purpose.

I'm pretty sure they mostly clean up air to the wing to work the wing better, whilst also generating a tiny bit of downforce themselves.

I quickly asked a couple of aerodynamicists. Both gave the same answer: primary goal is downforce, secondary can be flow conditioning.

Interesting but off topic...

I'd imagine that despite them looking a little like show car tires, this is an improvement on the manufacturing side?
