F1Technical- I just do the best job possible-Massa
Felipe Massa;
After Kimi's engine failed, it was disappointing of course, but I was not too concerned for my own engine. Kimi's failure involved a part in the engine that had failed on my engine in Budapest and while the team felt it was the better risk to leave Kimi's engine after the Hungarian GP, rather than give him a big grid penalty on a tight track, mine of course had to be changed. Now the batch of "cursed" con-rods is no longer being used and we have instigated very close controls on the parts we are using. I hope the problem has gone away for both of us."

I think Ferrari has just pushed the envelop too far lately. That is what started this thread and now we have confirmation that my thesis is true.
I understand what you mean, too less oil circulating in the engine will cause the engine to run less smooth and reduces the reliability of the engine as the parts tear off faster.

as I have said earlier the main issue seems to be less viscous oil. it is interesting that McLaren are rumored to switch to BP next year away from mobile1.

In a follow up they have said that McLaren-Mercedes have denied the rumor in the meantime. I only read this when I checked for the source.

The Ferrari failures were due to conrods from a dodgy batch from an outside supplier (supplied by Pankl in Austria).

Both engines Massa's Hockenheim/Budapest engine and Raikkonen's Budapest/Valencia unit had run to within 10 kms of each other when they failed, taking into account both races and all Saturday activity.

Axle, your a cynic, but point well made. Strange Ferrari would chose to source inferior conrods to save a few quid/lira/euros and that this might be engine tweaking through the back door. Or is it the team genuinely trying to reduce budgets in F1 as has been requested by the FIA (Fines In Abundance?)

Indeed, a bad batch doesn't mean anything more than that.
