Oh, more. I certify what was written on @extraconfidenci Monday. Satisfaction in McLaren. The data collected in two days of tests are expected to improve the level of the MCL33 at this time. This has no serious conceptual problems and seems a good base with margin of improvement.

Does anyone know what was our fastest time in winter testing 2018?
And also our Qualifying time in the GP 2018?
About 3 seconds slower than this years time IIRC.

The twit says current car improves what the MCL33 was doing this time last year

Same guy also adds that ALO is going to be in Montmeló next week and his MCL34 seat is in the making

McLaren's fastest time in 2018 winter testing was a 1:17.784 on Hypersofts which was roughly the same time as their Q3 time on Supers (could be mistaken tyre choice) with a 1:17.721

I was going for the same days/tyres - which was about ~1m22.5 I think for day 1 last year - on the Supers.

We won't know but it would be great to know who's contract is bullet proof in terms of being dropped if Alonso wants to come back.

I would imagine it's Norris that's easier to drop but realistically this could all happen before he even gets chance to prove himself in f1 which doesn't seem fair not that F1 is fair

Alonso has a lot of stuff already planned this year, I can't see him coming back on this short notice.

Alonso who? Looks like this team might be worth half a --- this year. Best testing so far since I can remember.

So apparently McLaren are at the same time, 2 seconds off their intended pace and very happy with the car? :D Journalists talking nonsense as usual.

What I gathered from Norris and his interview on Sky is that they are not completely happy but that they are working to improve the car. This dampened my expectations a bit, a but I still feel that the car looks like a solid midfield car, perhaps with potential to fight for 4th. Especially given that I expect McLaren to have good development pace through the year, especially with Key starting work in March (hopefully he developed some ideas in his garden).

Sainz yesterday was very happy with his morning, said it's the first time he did everything planned on day one of testing. This is extremely encouraging as McLaren struggled with the simple things in last 4 years, getting the car to run, having reliability to run miles, getting parts to work as planned, staying on schedule. Winter testing where everything seems to be going to plan is going to do wonders for this team and it's preparedness for Australia.

1:19:2 on C2 tires is something to keep in mind when journalists start talking about glory runs.

What's the point of comparing times with one's from last year while this year with the new regulations the cars are supposed to be 1.5secs slower? Also, Sainz mentioned that the asphalt is different as well, while last year it was fresh.

Not a whole lot, but so far if you go day by day and account for tyres, Mclaren are showing a larger pace improvement than most teams. But we just don't have enough data yet.
