McLaren MCL34

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The boomerang wing in the bargeboards has broken of twice today....First on the left side and then on the right side. Plus there are some cuts on top of it today...

The cuts were there from day 1, if you go a few pages back you will see them. However, its obvious they will need to rework the mounting points so they can keep those in place

Indeed they were. No mounting points though. Its a single piece of carbon fiber as far as i can tell. I guess its just bad design.

By mounting points I mean the place where it attaches to the floor/chassis

I think those cuts are to comply with regulations.

Does it fail at the joint to the rest of the barge board structure? (it it not attached to the floor or chassis)

By the way it broke off it seems that the front attachment broke

If it breaks in the red sections, i guess they need to reinforce the section indicated with the blue arrow.

It's broken where the legality slots are, probably going to end up with new ones with titanium inserts bonded in the back edge.

Then it means the boomerang is creating more load than they expected. To me this is a good thing, it means they underestimated it's effect.

Probably just more vibration from hitting the kerbs than expected - we saw last year how many people had issues with these kerbs.
