An interesting article on the Mercedes W10 from Racecar Engineering:

https://www.racecar-engineering.com/art ... ng-update/

Excerpt:

"As ever with pre-season testing the question is how fast are all the teams? However, pre-season testing, particularly in a cold Barcelona is not going to give you the answer. Aside from the teams keeping their cards close to their chests, the track conditions are unrepresentative due to the cold temperatures, so the pace of these cars will be drastically different when we get to a race weekend. This is highlighted by the cold graining shown on the front left tyre of the Mercedes W10 on the second day of testing."

The Merc had graining and severe orange peel on all it's tyres today, too much load when cold - which points to a very heavy car.

Cannot believe the looking into lap times. This is incredible the work being put into fantasy.

Let me make it easy--nobody is showing their hand. Nobody. Nobody is pushing the car in full engine settings. It's just not happening. No team knows their car well enough yet to be able to pull out of the car what it has, so even if they wanted to, they couldn't. So nothing is even close to being done or revealed. Not to mention the parts to come.

Team owners are lying to the press. It's standard. They do it every year. The press is making up stories from fantasy times that they make into some kind of story. It's all BS. It's the same every year.

We are seeing what we want to see. Reliability from the power units and cars that are not losing pieces down the straight. This is what we are learning right now as observers and it's great.

So don't worry...Ferrari, Marc, Red Bull....they all will be at the sharp end this year.

Finally, I hope Perez gives Stroll an absolute beat down every single race.

It's okay to see uninformed people on the internet talking crap, but when you see someone that gets paid to talk about F1 say "Ferrari are clear favorites" or "Mercedes has lost its magic" it just makes me mad about how people can get paid to insult everyone's intelligence.

None of 2 male commentators and 1 female reporter on f1 tv during tuesday morning session did not know what the tail lights flashing green on Alex Albon's car means (current regulars on UK Sky F1 is meh at best but those on f1.com is much worse than them, wow), autosport has long become another tabloid (none of writers can write by specifying basic 5W1H, articles full of hyperbole, sensationalism and quotes taken out of context and even modified completely), amus is spreading pure speculation and guessing as fact, and so on. That is the quality of F1 media sadly, really stark contrast to the media and coverage of other major sports like football and tennis which have really advanced and got smart these days. On top of that, alas F1 is the technological/engineering sport..no wonder this sport is in decline.

Relax guys, take a deep breath and repeat to yourselves 3 times, "it's testing, it's testing, it's testing". 😁

@muramasa who are the commentators on F1TV? Are they completely new people?

First stint of both Hamilton and Bottas are missing.
And the last set of times of Hamilton was not part of his race distance, his last stint is the second set of times in your chart.

yes, of course it depends to whom (or is it who?) you're behind of but that isnt a dramatic drop.
"depends on whom" sounds better, although, the structure of the sentence is a bit off, so best to just rephrase - "it depends on who is in front of you" :)
"Whom" in this case. Simple test: if you can change it to "him" then it's whom, if you can change it to "he" then it's who. I'm behind him so it's "whom I am behind". He is behind me so it's "who is behind me". A bit of reshuffling is required when using this method.

"Whom" when referring to the object of a verb, "who" when referring to the subject of a sentence.

Sorry everyone.
It's probably best to just link a table of objective, subjective and possessive pronouns.

Big shoutout to 'you' for being the pronoun for four separate cases.

I know, but I can tell you that the first real stints of the race sim are missing.
The times given there are correct, but the last part of Hamilton is not a race stint, it was just a stint after his race stint was completed.

thats quite interessting i think.
At Race Pace it looks like Mercedes is a second off the pace from last year. So maybe if they turn up the Engine and so on they are at the same level.

Other teams like Alfa showed us that they found a second or even more. (in qualy pace)

The merc is ending race sims into the 1:19’s, where the Ferrari is ending in the 1:21’s.

I think this is too large a discrepancy to be raw pace (fancy that) but it certainly demonstrates that mercedes is waaayyyyy more in this than the media, and Toto, are reporting.
