Drivers and teams do this all the time even during the season in free practice. they do it to see how hard they can actually push the car.

In the case of Mercedes, pushing in sector three would be the most likely one, because it has been their boogie sector for several years.

Couldn`t resist :P

Also its no wonder Mercedes didn`t give a monkeys about showing off the diffuser [with flo-vis] last week, they probably knew this week wasn`t televised and the car wasn`t their "real" 2019 charger...

Are we still trying to compare unknowns? The only people who know where they are is the teams, and that it only in relation to last years car.
Yes, we are. Enjoy. :)

Every year same thing... Testing shows us smt about the order. It fails sometimes but more often testing analysis for pecking order is correct.

I am worried about Merc. I have a feeling both RedBull and Ferrari is quicker. Not by much but Merc needs more. I hope I am wrong because I want Lewis to break 7 :) I am really looking forward to see the qualifying at Melbourne.

I would almost say vulgar  . But it's still unique. Sad though that we've lost the last "normal" nose cone

Sky F1
Mercedes back on track
Three hours after that oil-pressure problem and the Mercedes W10 is on track for the closing seven minutes.

But that's effectively a session lost for the world champions and Valtteri Bottas.

So Merc can do a PU swap in what .... ?

They got the car back at around 14:57 local time ... made the issue public at 16:14, saying they're swapping PU ... and were out at 17:52

So if they started the swap right away it was just under 3 hours, if they made the tweet at the same time they started working they did it in 1h38min - the actual time lies somewhere inbetween

Bottas went out and did a Hamilton-matching time in his 6 laps of post-engine swap play time. I think we can say that Mercedes are still playing the quiet game for the moment.

Norris tops day 5 at Barcelona, Mercedes hit trouble

Lando Norris topped the times for McLaren this afternoon, thanks to a late qualifying run on the softest tyre available. McLaren though did hit further reliability problems, as did Mercedes.

Are we certain it was the softest tyre? A lot of places saying he switched to a C4 after a couple of runs on the C5 and that's the tyre he went fastest on...

A glory run from Mclaren they couldn't stomach to see Rbr Honda on top of the time sheet they had to screw it for them in order to move the news circle , destroying their own car in the process

So, Ferrari told they were checking the cooling system today morning and it took Leclerc 2,5 hours to be back on track again. Why would the checks take so long? Do you think Ferrari changed the engine, but didn't make it public?

Is that what it was? Typically all teams stop on track, one day only, towards the end of the day, to check the real point when the tank is "empty". Is part of their calibration and it would make sense to do it after you have no more pending long runs, following a quali test. It might have been just that.
