McLaren looking incredibly competitive after the latest C2 stint. Not sure if it's a race simulation or not, but if you compare it to the final stints from Mercedes's and Ferrari's Race sim from yesterday: (I do believe McLaren is running a higher engine mode perhaps looking at the speed trap during the stint)

McLaren Average: 21.660 (19 laps)
Mercedes Average: 21.265 (25 laps)
Ferrari Average: 21.376 (24 laps)

Being around ~1s behind the top teams should be considered an achievement considering McLaren were 2.5s off the pace last season in some races. Can't wait for Melbourne so we finally know the true place on the grid.

Much earlier in the day, someone had posted that McLaren's engine was turned down, to the value of about one tenth, due to some issues with the PU.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Quite a short stint; maybe they weren't fueled quite high.

19 laps, not short, and I compared it to the final stint from Merc's and Ferrari's RACE SIM from yesterday, so fuel is corrected. Only thing unknown is engine mode.

yap, they are not that bad, still hope they can make 4 best overall team. they look ok on the long runs, but not so fast on the qualy sims. however its impossible to know true fuel and engine modes...

however they are no longer off by 2.5 secs like last year.

Was just thinking, could it be possible Ferrari asks it's customer teams to run a higher engine mode, to test for reliability? I know it may seem off topic, but my context is in relation to McLaren, performance wise. Plus they've stopped quite a bit on track.

Absolutely. Exciting to know good progress has been made. There are plenty of unknowns with what looks to be the tightest field I can remember, should make for an epic season. If McLaren's car is as solid as a base as it appears, I'm confident they'll outdevelop the midfield through the course of the season. Finishing 4th has to be a realistic target, and would be a fantastic end result for the team. Who knows, a cheeky podium when the front runners trip over each other.

I was talking about the one he did today in the end.
