Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

Him questioning why? Why would you not change something if it's going to improve aerodynamics or performance.
It's not a given that the changes being proposed are an improvement. That's the point. It was stated that Mercedes will make changes but there has been no further evidence.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

An assumption or guess not stated.

I hope Mercedes don't decrease the volume of the intake considering your evidence increased drag and less reliability.

I thought there was a nice video showing the flow around the front wing at 2:39 in today's Autosport video. I've linked to a screenshot of the supposed flow structures as well (Sorry about the link, I don't know how to insert photos from foreign sources yet). It doesn't tell us much but its always nice to have a visual of the conceptual flow patterns.

Why isn't it an improvement
first off, he didn't say it wasn't an improvement. He said "It's not a given that the changes being proposed are an improvement."

Second, they can only make the inlets so small before they starve the radiators for air flow and then the engine will overheat.

The originator of this issue said this:
New, smaller radiator inlets will be coming. They are too big compared to the level of development on the engine.
That's not an assumption or a guess. It's a statement. He says they will be coming.

Perhaps you should stop arguing this point now.

Okay I will, it was my guess. I don't think any of us can state further developments as fact.

Well, this implied that they've rushed the Melbourne Spec.

They thought they were good enough with the launch spec to do the 2 weeks of testing, then bring the Melbourne package. But as we all know the launch package was nowhere near where they thought it'd be.

Interesting.

Great video. The delivery was very confident - no hint of worries of any sort. Indeed James Allison boldly informed the world that the performance of the 2019 car exceeds that of the 2018 one. Interesting.

Even though it was the first weeks mule in the video, it is almost safe to conclude from James Allison's words that there's such a high pace of aero work at Merc that the car from last weeks test might not even resemble the one we'll see in Melbourne.

In my opinion, the video has been shot before the winter tests began. He talks about, how there are going to be "new clothes" for Melbourne spec and hoping that should make them competitive.

If that is indeed true, it bodes extremely well for them that they can produce things in a hurry run them on track, while most teams struggle with such long lead time in production. That should make them even more competitive than they have been!

Heck, this so called Melbourne spec may well be the updates for the European season. Perhaps they've brought it more earlier, because they don't have a choice now.
