How did Force India's Adrian Came fastest in the Speedtrap?

Post

I think Force India is the slowest car in the grid.In their qualifying they are always at the last. But in the speed trap results during the race Sutil was the fastest. How can this be possible?

They run a Ferrari engine. They probably also stripped the car down of all aerodynamic elements and there you have a car with low drag and a powerful powertrain.

Obviously top speeds during the race are influenced by slipstreaming behind other cars. If Adrian had an optimal suction behind another car's rear wing, he will have greatly benefited.

I'm not sure how quick he was, but I can tell that slipstreaming can sometimes result in 15km/h of additional top speed if the 7th gear is set up long enough.

I think he followed Lewis through Eau Rouge etc on one or two occasions....and the McLaren wasn't hanging about ;)

The Speed Trap is at the top of Raidillon so a slip-stream is not going to be much use.

Compare the S1 speeds instead.

Also -- straight line speed has very little to do with lap times, especially if they run less wing to compensate.

The real speed is shown on Qualy, when the cars are running alone.
Check this link:

There you can see McLarens and Red Bulls on top.
Sutil is 11th and Fisichella is 19th, that means Adrian was on a low wing config.

That and a little slipstreaming helped him to reach that mark in the speedtrap on sunday.

Hmmm is it telling that the 4 Toyota engines are at the bottom end of that list? :|

Or not as there are 2 Ferrari engines too...

For a more complete picture I stumbled upon these links from the FIA website.

They list the maximum speed for each sector rather than speed trap for quali and the race.

Race

It does appear Force india trimmed the car as much as possible to achieve some passing opportunites after the long straight int he first sector. It could also be due to a nice slipstream.
