Still though we failed to get points for the first race due to mistakes.Hopefully we will not repeat them in Bahrain not to mention that it might suit us better. Anyone knows if the bring more upgrades to remove those balance issues?

I doubt anyone anticipated Giovinazzi staying out for that long, they probably predicted that he would pit the following laps after Lando

The only thing Giovanazzi managed to do today, was to ruin the race for quite a few drivers.... I think Norris would be able to fend off 9th if Giovanazzi would not be there pulling the handbrake on everybody behind him.

On the other hand, Lando pitted much earlier than many of others, and he lost alot of time in the final stage so its a bag of mixed feelings after race 1.

We only judge from what we saw during the first race. I preferred last year's car with bad quali pace but alot better in the race. It also seemed more gentle to the tyres. We solved the correlation problems, we had the expected development from one year to another, we have an almost as good engine as the others, but we are at the same place (if not worse). So the other teams made bigger steps than us.
I am worried from Lando's trouble to get passed Giovinazzi, a car with no tires at that point. Everyone else got passed him very easily. But he is a rookie. If you look it from another view he didn't took any risks, which is a good thing. But this thing with Giovinazzi ruined his race.
Not so easily, the problem of Mclaren was second to last corner, before the main straight, that was the place where he lost just enough time, to not be completely in the slipstream.

The whole "better" overtaking changes proved to be completely ineffective.

Overall, a disappointing day.
But with zero real indication on where we stand in the middle field.
Norris had a chance to be 9th today.
The time lost behind the Alfa Romeo gave the opportunity to Stroll Kvyat and Gasly to get in front of him.
So from 9th ended up 12th.
The most Alarming though was the pace we had after we passed Alfa Romeo. It was quite bad.
Either he overused his tires trying to pass the Giovinazzi , or they reduced power on the engine to play it safe after what happened to Sainz.
But we where lapping about 1,5 seconds slower than KVY and about 0,7 to 1 sec off RAI and HUL pace.
In the last 10 laps, RAI and HUL up their pace a bit, showing that they where just reserving tires, but Norris was almost 2 seconds off their pace .
I really hope that he just destroyed his tires out of inexperience regarding tire management in F1 or engine was clamped down.

Next race would be more of an indicator.

Unlucky Carlos again with a MGU-K, wrong strategy for Norris overall a neutral start without any points....

Disappointing.
For an MGU-K failure, the fire was rather impressive, concerning actually. No doubt that probably wrote off the ICE for how long it went on for.
I hope they can turn it around in Bahrain. But for now, not the result I was expecting to see based on their showings over the weekend.

very disappointed about mclaren's race today we have to wait if there was any engine problem for Norris cause his pace was very poor, the midfield is unbelievably close

I'm sure the others behind are welcome to drive past a slower car at any time. Seems like it wasn't much easier to follow another car as expected, with the new FW's and all? We'll never get rid of the Trulli-trains

I think the pace of the last 25 laps was because of too Cold tires, and as a rookie he can`t manage it. Same Problem for Ham and Vet. Interesting that Rai could handle it. Race pace could be as fast as the midfield or even slightly better.

And one ferrari powered. Ricciardo had a trip over the grass in the start and his car sustained damage.

Are there any significant upgrades that will solve our balance issues?

Norris:
“The team gave me a good car, with enough pace for me to be in the top 10 but I made a couple of mistakes which cost me any chance of scoring points, so I’m a little disappointed. But it’s cool to finish my first [F1] race and get it out of the way.

“I didn’t make the perfect start, struggled to get ahead of a slower car and then had a big lock-up so I need to work on these mistakes. I’m annoyed with myself as there was more potential. Now I focus and look forward to Bahrain.”

Let's hope our updates work when it arrives...

Issue seems to relate more to traction than aero. Bahrain can be a positive weekend, looking forward to it.

Theres clearly pace in the car and good points will be won. Aus was never going to be a great track for this car.

I didn't see the race but if you dont have great traction at this track then tyre deg will be higher and you'll struggle.
