2018 Bahrain Hulk qualifies 8th and was 1.612 seconds off Pole
2019 Bahrain Hulk qualifies 17th and was 2.168 Seconds off Pole

Renault has not only made no progress towards the top teams but instead is going backwards.
Cyril definately needs to go as these results are shocking for a works team.

Your statement doesn't really correlate to progress.
Look where the Renault is to the redbull before you say that. The Renault Engine is also in the Mclaren and theyre both in the top 10. Ferrari has been super strong engine wise. I don't see how 1 q3 session represents all the work the team have done.
For me renault is pretty much fighting for the best of the rest again with more competition. Mclaren have replaced Racing Point and its powered by a Renault. Redbull have fallen back, i suspect because of Honda Power. So things arent' looking bad at all for enstone.
For Sure!!

Hulk had engine in safe mode for nearly the entire lap, should have been in top 6-7 cars as before. Avocado did better than expected, though.

Even if you factor in Rics qualifying time Renault has not made any progress from last year. Australia and now Bahrain. Maybe qualy improves at the next race but Haas looks extremely strong and seem to have the same gap as last year if not more. And Mclaren has leapfrogged them this year. So far it is not looking good for Renault at all.

The Renault PU is looking decent based on the Maclaren speed but the Renault chassis isn't looking too flash at all! I really hope Renault get their act together quickly for Dan and Nico's sakes.

Renault PU seem better than Honda

RIC is far from pace, HUL should have fight with MAG

Dan was 2-3/10ths quicker on every qually run than Nico and considering he's still learning the Renault team etc I don't think there's any excuse for Nico being so slow.

I hope not. We need technical director and car designer fired soon as possible so RS20 still can end up being not garbage like RS18 and RS19. This season ended long time ago, likely on 2nd test in Barcelona. Now we need full preparation for 2020.

Nico Hülkenberg, #27, R.S.19-02, Q: P17, 1:30.034 / FP3: P6, 1:30.910
“We unfortunately suffered a couple of issues with the car at the worst possible time during qualifying. We lost performance and there was no chance of fixing anything in a short amount of time

Alan Permane, Sporting Director
“It has been a difficult qualifying session for the team today. We faced a number of issues that cost significant performance, the most expensive one being an engine mapping issue generating an engine safe mode almost the entire lap. It is disappointing but we will aim to make progress up the grid in tomorrow’s race.”

Is Alan talking about every fast lap or just the last lap where Hulk failed to improve and Dan found over a second to get into Q2?

Renault have a chance of point in the race, if they can get into that gap behind the haas.. the trouble is I think the racing point will hold everyone up and the top 7 will pull away. PU showing well in the Mclaren..

I think the issue with Hulk's car might leave him starting from the pits..

Ricciardo is probably best set of all the midfield- he can avoid the red tyre for the whole race if he starts on medium or hard and if he gets a good start, he will comfortably be in the points.

I think the Hulk issue explains things- he was faster in FP2 than he was in quali and that can only be down to a problem.
