Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

i disagree with Piola on the asymmetric thing. It may well be that they are comparing left to right by having two different brake covers.

Did they try some high rake setup with Russell on Wednesday or it`s just the photo view angle?

Seems also from this photo that they tested a low downforce rear wing. Don't know if it's a new development path privileging peak speed à la ferrari, or just a test of some bakou spec.

What is the disadvantage of more rake?

More downforce from the diffuser which is drag free.. or less draggy than the downforce from the wings, i think.

But everyone in F1 say that the aero philosophy is so different that u cant go rake if your car is not designed that way.

So it looks strange that AMG is trying rake setups on their car.

it's not for sure a disadvantage, we would need to know a lot more about the car to make that claim.

If the floor seals properly, then it means they will generate more DF from the diffuser. That gives them the option of running more DF overall, or trimming the RW, for the same DF but less drag. I believe it would also let them run the front wing closer to the ground for a greater ground effect.

I assume what they are doing is testing how much rake they can safely run, and to see if it has and adverse affects.

Merc seems fine on tire wear this year (first time in a log time), so I assume they will focus all their in season development on safely generating more rake based DF so the can run a less draggy RW.

Every car has some level of rake - Mercedes has never run the extreme rake that others have and do. Since last year, they increased their rake - James Allison said so in the launch video last year, and this year's car has run more rake since Barca test 2nd week (as per AMuS) - they even had a table of ride height and stated starting week 2, Merc added 20 mm to rear ride height so this isn't an unusual pic. Compare this to Racing Point, Renault, Ferrari, or Red Bull and this is still a pretty low amount of rake.

Man that looks so good. What a machine! It's funny how the halo doesn't even bother me anymore and I was one of the more vocal protesters of that device.

That photo is at a higher speed when the rear squats down, that is what you want it to do.

This. Plus they're running an entirely different setup there with the high-downforce RW configuration.
