lol both Mclarens are doing long runs on used softs atm and they are on lvl with Lecrec times on same laps used softs.
Both Mclarens seems way better on long runs than HAAS drivers that are also on softs.
SAI is doing constant laps at mid 1.23s he went the soft up to 19 laps, more than anyone..
very very impressive staff from Mclaren on soft long runs !!

Edit:
Mclarens and Lecrec switched to HARD. LEC started mid 1.22s and SAI high 1.22s . NOR cant follow SAI pace on hard.
Hard seems more hard to read.Even SAI was inconsistent. Lots of ppl went from soft to medium and others went from soft to hard.
Some medium runners where pretty fast also,on long runs, RIC in particular but MCL didnt used medium for long runs at all.
Great, thanks for the detailed info!

Don't think Hards are in the cards for the race .....Saints used all 3 of his (although just 1 lap on 1 set). Norris just 1.

Two of Mclarens courier cars gone out tonight with more parts on board - don't know if that's more updates for FP3 or the parts to fit the engines if they've decided to go with them after looking at Ric's long run pace on the updated motor.
The motors shipped from Paris. 2 have arrive 2 are late. They should all be there tomorrow.

These were the high speed cars from Woking, so I assume either more updates or the parts required to fit to the new engines.

if you are saying that they filled a couple of 720s's with parts, i doubt that they will have room for engine covers. c:

No, mclaren have very distinctive, heavily modified cars for taking last minute parts to GP's, they have endurance/saddle fuel tanks, modified radiators/cooling systems, etc, so that they can cover most of Europe faster than delivery by aircraft can without having to stop for fuel, etc.
They're very easy to spot, as a bonus. It's what they use for rush parts.

This is actually brilliant. Any pictures of them floating around? Or something I can google to maybe find a picture?

McLaren version of a cannonball run car. I wonder how many speed cameras they trip on the way there if parts absolutely positively have to be there before morning.

There's a guy on Pistonheads with an old Porsche that used (maybe still does, can't remember, thread was a while back) to do the same kind of job for a race team, and pictures of the mods made.
I'll see if I can dig up some pictures of the Mclaren ones, or get someone to snap them.

I wish they'd do a feature on them as part of the pre-show or some PR fluff to be honest, it's incredible the details the teams go to for logistics.

Has loads of info on what kind of cars race teams use for shifting parts, he's got onboard comms, waterproofing for wading floods, commerical GPS systems, skidpans for unpaved roads at speed, self-sealing tyres and all sorts on.

if ever there were a Barcelona GP when mclaren wasn't sending out parts on a friday, that would be some cause for concern

wow i didnt know that. so are they actually modded mclaren street cars? i was just joking, and figured they were using vans, but after seeing that 911, not so sure. that would make a great documentary, filming the ride Top Gear style.

I’m a bit concern/disappointed with the S2 & S3 deficit. We’re giving practically nothing away in S1, but loose so much after that. May be too much to address with only FP3 left, but hopefully the can come up with some solutions during the 2 day test
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Barcelona is a place where you cannot hide. The top 3 unsurprisingly pull out a long gap despite this being a relatively short track as the circuit not only needs excellent aero for high speed corners but the last sector requires good mechanical grip. The tarmac is smooth which removes another variable.

Mclaren have added downforce to the car but the way the downforce is distributed across the car makes a significant difference. They will make a step today as they are a data driven team with excellent analytical capabilities and we have to hope others won't make a similar step.

The car looked reasonably well balanced on long runs and showed good tyre longevity. It is the one lap pace where they need to unlock some performance. Q3 is possible if they maximize their package.

@ AlbertFabrega

Mercedes, McLaren and Renault will build a car for the first 18" tires. There will be 3 sessions in 2019.

Glad to see we're in there...
