"In qualifying, we still lack the power or the 'party mode' that Mercedes and Ferrari have, to a certain extent," says Marko. "Honda is still working on that so I think it's coming for us. The question is only when. We are told that we have to start from the Grand Prix at Spa or the one at Monza."

"Regarding the engine, two more upgrades are coming, both of which deliver power. And as always at Red Bull, we are constantly working on developing the car. We know we still need to improve it."

The Austrian cannot yet say how well the (modest) updates that the racing stable have already used this weekend in Barcelona. "We have to wait until after the qualification. Friday was not our best day due to various problems. After Saturday we have a better picture."

here's a q3 lap by verstappen (P4 - 1.16.357). the car is very good in the corners, but for whatever reason lacks quite a lot of speed on the straights. Especially against ferrari's new engine the deficit has grown noticably.

How much speed against Merc and Ferrari? You posted the lap with telemetry on RBR, do you have one with Merc and Ferrari?

Honda weak no more! Atleast in the race. Gasly was side by side with Vettel without losing an inch on the straight!

Great race for RB and Honda.

Does anyone know If Max’ PU that leaked oil during FP1 is still useable?

Oooh bad news, that means spec 1.0 just lasted 3 races and Max now has to do the FPs with his current race unit. Plus I am sure he had to use higher power modes today after the SC restart. Not good news. Hopefully the spec 2.0 is indeed much more reliable.

Gasly showed promising pace in Baku but he was on average 0.75 seconds slower per lap in race pace here in Barcelona (compared to Verstappen).

Yes, again very poor performance compared to Max. He is just too far behind.

He must beat at least one Ferrari with softer compound

Ricciardo was on average 0,6 seconds down on Verstappen on race pace last year. Gasly a tad slower then Ric.

It's like Vandoorne vs Alonso. Even if Gasly improves he will likely never overcome the deficit he currently has. The question is how good a number 2 driver does Red Bull need him to be?

Max was on par or slightly quicker than both Ferrari's so that's a positive but he was 0.5secs per lap slower than Mercedes in race trim so still a lot of work to be done.

With these new tyres this year, Red Bull has clearly lost the advantage it held earlier of managing tyres much better than both Mercedes and Ferrari

Hope we get to see updates soon

Well, as long as he finishes reliably ahead of the midfield I think it's not too bad. But with such a number 2 driver you will be P3 in WCC for eternity.
