Can't tell anything from long runs, they do 2 or 3 fast laps at most then charge batteries and try again.
Gasly had the same pace as Vettel ..... should say enough imo
Long runs are quite irrelevant in Monaco, its all and only about track position and you get that trough qualifying.

wrong .... because if you lose 0,5 per lap, you won't be able to challenge them when you trying to do the under- or overcut, because the gap would be to big.
and as it seems they will do only 1 stop because the red ones can last a long way in the first stint, so strategical if you are behind but not to far off, you would have 1 change to get them when they do there stops

Nobody challenged anybody in the top six for years now (apart from Ferrari’s switch), it’s all holding positions on a dry Sunday. Any team would trade .5 race pace for a spot higher on grid

i see it different
I don't say it's not true, but to challenge a position you need to be in the position to challenge it

and that can only be done if you are close enough, meaning matching the laptimes or be better, and if you are off the pace 0.5 sec per lap you can't be in the position to challenge, eitherway by strategic or on track ....otherwise you could flagg off the race after 1 lap

Largely irrelevant then. You indeed need to be able to fend off under- and overcut attempts. And in really bad cases uppercut attempts. I must admit I always had enough pace to outrun those.

Watched the dry Monaco races the last couple of years? :P there is a reason why there is so many dissatisfaction about the race each year because it just could be one lap...

Yeah I kind of agree.

But isn't it grand, to watch the best of the best going for it around a do or die circuit ?

I love the tension of knowing that one f**k up means you take a wheel off 😎

Bleak prospects for this and following seasons, especially 2021. Mercedes are to keep destroying the field with their budget and influence for the years to come.

And the gearboxes won't be "standard" for 2021...

It will surprise me if we are slower than Ferrari here in Monaco.

On another topic. This article is sad. https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/for ... -mercedes/

Great job by Max,
Thought he could have improved on his second lap. Don't know why they go out so late if Tyer warm up is so important or is track evolution in a matter of a minute make a bigger difference. I thought Vettel quite got it right in terms of putting a fast out lap.
Other good news, all four Honda powered Bull's on the top 10. This for the first time right?

Verstappen actually said he went to slow on his out-lap and didn't get enough heat in the tyres, so it was over at turn 1. I think Red Bull performed reasonably, yet they seem incapable to make that lap step in Q3. However it should be said that Hamiltons and Bottas' lap were both extraordinary and Max his lap merely good, so with that in mind the gap isn't that big. Gasly still has to improve but overall he performed OK for a 2nd driver.

He went too slow on outlap because of traffic. Agree he would have stayed third but would have been nice to see what the gap would have been they did have good preparation on the outlap.
