dont know who owns it, but the parent company I believe is Motorsport Network, and the chair is one Zak Brown
That makes it that much more strange. Autosport had a relatively clear bias against McLaren prior to the season, writing off any good result from McLaren as "glory runs". We can remember when they were saying McLaren was only faster than Williams.
I've often commented about the bias, but I'm starting to wonder if they've been told to downplay McLaren to keep expectations in check. The media frenzy surrounding McLaren over the past few years have led to a lot of negative responses, particularly from the Honda fan camp, with team comments being twisted and exaggerated. If Zak has any influence on the Motorsport Network, it would make sense for them to soften any wild expectations so their actual progress speaks for itself. It seems to be working, the media approach has been much more forgiving this season, and McLaren's image outwith their fans is improving.
A lot of it was Red Bull if you ask me, out to get Cyril. There's been this constant story how Honda have been doing really really well with Wunderful Red Bull after escaping from Horrid McLaren, so it was McLaren holding Honda back all this time but Red Bull are sooo positive to work with really honestly, and now Mac are still hopeless with Renault, as Renault are terrible.
And then some of it was real: last year's car was a dog, Zak is short and fat
, and Renault were terrible last year too, so there was plenty to work with.
And on top of that a lot of fans i think have been fed up with Ron's great old team descending into failure. But it's f1, it can all be turned round, starting today perhaps
