i agree, i dont think they wanted to cover the stars up for all the factory employees along with nikis star, the white isnt paint, its just a wrap... you can see the up close and person photos in the car hardware and development thread and can see the wrap easily...
I believe the reason for the livery scheme is to go back to the W25... Back in (I believe 1934) the Mercedes cars were overweight and a decision was made to peel the paint to reduce it... After doing this, the cars ended up in base aluminum and therefore the “Silver Arrows” were born.cooken wrote:Whatever the motivation or back story, the execution is...strange. The silver livery looks good, the white stuff and small "stripped" sections look ok, I really like the vintage touches and font for Mercedes, but as applied it all looks ugly. Would've been so much nicer to have the full car in white with just some silver patches here and there. Maybe sponsorship/branding requirements prevented them doing it.
So much better! Perhaps they'll get enough feedback to finally drop the grey grey with its wishy washy nothing staid boring greynessMorteza wrote: ↑25 Jul 2019, 15:25What could have been

Yep. Which is one of the reasons I love the look and the execution.SmallSoldier wrote: ↑25 Jul 2019, 20:07I believe the reason for the livery scheme is to go back to the W25... The livery is calling back to that particular situation.

Hmm if it's a wrap then I would expect it to be removed for qualifying and the race. There is no reason for it to be a wrap, the cars are stripped to bare carbon after every race and repainted anyway so painting it a different colour scheme wouldn't be too much extra work.holeindalip wrote: ↑25 Jul 2019, 19:40i agree, i dont think they wanted to cover the stars up for all the factory employees along with nikis star, the white isnt paint, its just a wrap... you can see the up close and person photos in the car hardware and development thread and can see the wrap easily...

I'm not sure how I remember this, but it was mentioned and shown in this video.
Not one I can link to, I went on a tour of the red bull factory and they told us about it. It's because of all the dirt and rubber that gets embedded in the paint making the car weigh more. Only way to remove it is to strip it.
