Spectacular race, great for F1.
Putting new Inters on SAI on lap 29 despite what everybody else was doing best decision ever. It takes balls to make that call when everybody else is going for dry tires at that time.
Kudos to the Team for that game changing decision.
Actually Sainz said for the spanish tv after the race that was his own decision, and he also was thinking about slicks when Strol and Kvyat put them, but said they were 5th at that point and it was too risky

But he was not completely happy because of that, he said podium was a real posibility and they missed it. Anycase he repeated no decision was bad today, they did what any other would have done in that position, but even so he couldn´t stop thinking about that posibility

He´s ambitions for sure =D>

Having all of the top three teams F-Up in one way or another only come every few years. Last time was Baku 2018 and 2017 and Williams was on the podium in 2017 and Force India in 2018, now Mclaren was behind STR and RP.
Sainz said it clear, they managed the risk as best as they could... Kvyat finished in the podium because he had nothing to lose and took a big gamble going for Softs before anyone else and it paid off... Sainz on the other hand, was already on a good track position and probably not worth risking... If Lando would have still being in the race, they could have gamble with one of them... But 5th isn’t bad and the points help exceed 2018 total tally... A very good weekend overall.

To be fair, at the end of the race I rewinded to see what was Strol and Kvyat position before goint to slicks, and Kvyat was 9th!

Kudos to STR and Danil, that was risky when they had two valuable points in the pocket, they assumed a lot of risks, and changed those two points for a podium!!! =D> =D>

RB/TR surely know when to take risks, they have a great instinct.

Albon was ahead of Kvyat at that moment, right? That makes it easier to gamble, you split the strategies. McLaren couldn't do that because Norris was out.

Taking risk when you are 5th and when you are 15th is not the same right? So I fully support the decision of SAI and the team, and although I would have been super happy if we managed to get a podium in Germany I would be even more happy if we do it this year or next on merit, on raw pace.... then I would be truly happy.

It was a logical decision. It will be really hard for Renault to catch them now, nearly impossible I would say.

I know what you mean..that being said, they did increase their lead over 5yh from 21 to 28 points.
Toro Rosso isn't really a consistent challenger for P4 anyway so it's actually a 31 point gap (to Renault). But that can be wiped out in one or two races; still a long way to go.
Maybe, the trend was and has continued that McLaren keeps increasing its lead over 5th. Dispite a retirement.

Agreed, Bottas must be kicking himself.

I think the improved Racing Point will be getting more involved in the area Mclaren and Renault are getting their points from.
My gut feeling is they will be behind Mclaren more often than not, so the Renaults could find themselves falling away as RP take a couple of points per race from those they seem to have collected this season.

If things turn out that RP are infront of the Mclaren it still means less points for Renault and longer to close the gap.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

So... will we finally see the new upgrade on the car this weekend? I now the current config works well enough, but every other team has brought at least one big upgrade so far.

Did anyone get what Sainz Snr was saying? Or Seidl after he said don't be disappointed.
