We can forget that the top 3 are also developing their cars and they do so from a way better starting point.Xero wrote:I think you're maybe getting the wrong gist of it. It's absolutely brilliant and exciting to see us be in this position, and it's been thoroughly enjoyable so far this year. Being best of the rest is half of the target, but the other is closing the gap to the front, which is what the team themselves are targeting most. Probably track specific, but today it was relatively larger than in recent races.RonDennis wrote: ↑03 Aug 2019, 16:13What’s wrong with you people? How long have you been watching F1? Just look at the jump the made compared to last year, it’s an amazing job and they don’t even have Alonso and are getting outspend 5:3. Without any budget caps it will be nearly impossible to reach the podium on pure pace.
The fact that they are closing the gap to the front compared to last year and still fighting to be “Best of the Rest” is an achievement in and on itself.
I’m actually very impressed with the performance today, in reality this is a track that wasn’t supposed to play into this year’s cars characteristics and strengths... The likes of Renault and Alfa were on paper stronger due to their low speed corner advantage... Which tells us that the team is finally understanding and developing that area.
Let’s go through the race tomorrow first... No points are given in Qualifying and we have had our fair share of bad luck and retirements... If the team can extend their gap to 5th before the summer brake, it will be mission accomplished so far.
