Why is the car having so terrible pace in Spa? I refuse to believe that the others gained more than a second in just one race. One race before we were like 3 tenths in front of the others and here we are suddenly 1.5 secs behind? What is going on?
yes very strange how far we are almost a second behind ricciardo

I can't accept that we lost more than a second in just one race. It's impossible for any team to suddenly gain 1 whole second no matter what they bring.

its almost as we do this on purpose. I don't know how optimistic we can be for the race if differences are so big in quali.

Of course the others didn't win a full second on McLaren.

Unexpected to be so far off... Hoping that the only reason why it’s that way is because the team setup the car for the lower temperatures expected tomorrow and that they will benefit from it... Spa is one of the races where setting up the car for the race is more important than setting it up for qualifying... Top speed wasn’t terrible and there could be opportunities to make some places during the race.

Not how we wanted to start the second half of the season.

Lando will be P10 behind both Haas cars... That if they still struggle with race pace could give an opportunity for P8-P7 tomorrow

One would assume that Spa and Monza would be very strong races for McLaren since the MCL34 seems to have very low drag and alongside with the Renault engine it gave us the impression that both of those races would be some great opportunities, however the opposite happened. Pretty strange. Also as far as aero philosophy goes, McLaren's is similar to Ferrari's but that didn't show here. Obviously Ferrari has way more power available but still. On the other hand indeed strange stuff since Merc is very far behind in qualy pace to Ferrari.

Was thinking the very same thing. Earlier in the season the Mclaren appeared to be very aero efficient and good on the straights. Baku and other places showed that. Ricciardo even commented on that. Yet somehow, something went wrong this weekend. Could be tire related as well as not getting an optimal time in from either of the drivers. Still expecting Norris and Sainz to go forward in the race.

Remember two years ago when Renault were behind Toro Rosso leading up to the final races and they made sure they were not getting any more points. Kinda reminiscent of those days, to see this drop in performance.

Im reading here people saying we lost 1 second over the summer break .... LOL .... I just think its much simpler than that, we just did not find the right set-up at this track with this car. You can gain or loose around 1 second on set-up alone so please stop with this knee-jerk reactions, thanks.

Off topic but wishing the very best to the F2 drivers involved. Puts all of our silly discussions into perspective...

Sainz said he went back to spec B PU, what's the reason?

The Renault drivers did as well. The plan was to always to race it at Monza not here, as Cyril said before the weekend
