Should the driver with the most wins be WDC?

Post

Bernie is considering a gold medal system the would effectively award the driver with the most wins the WDC... Thoughts? Ideas? comments?

I kinda like it... it would have gave my fav driver Senna 4 straight WDC's (88-91),

also, it would take away silly team order scenarios like we had in China last race, and even the team orders that KIMI used to pass MAssa in Brazil last year. It may have even given the stewards serious pause before they concocted that bullshit decision in SPa this year.

Is there any scenario where the driver with the most wins shouldnt be the WDC?

Do we want to watch drivers racing for points or for wins?

Personally I'm happy with points. But I feel the fastest/winner should have more of a points prize for winning.

I think 15 for first and 9, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 would work nicely. With 3 points for Pole and 2 for fastest in race lap.

So if you cleaned up in the race you could walk away with 20 points.

Something like that would be good imo.

They should bring back 10-6-4-3-2-1

The championship would look like this.
Hamilton 78
Massa 73

Hamilton would need to finish 2nd if Massa wins next race.

I dont like the gold medal system but drivers should be motivated to go for that win.

Now they can just cruise around second and still be fighting for WDC (see kubica)

I like it the way it is.. but it would be good to award points for all positions.. If you come last,1 point for crossing the line.

"Just cruise around" I think Kubica has raced his heart out during the early part of the season & has found his car not quite up to ferrari/maclaren in the latter part, he's given us some good & consistent racing & has the points to show for it!

Just gold medals? what do the midfield teams race for then? how about Force India, Honda, they just meant to be out there for the jollies of it? Points give a reasonable representation of constructor achievement as well, something that smaller teams race to get in order to be placed relative to their immediate competitors.

What would we see with "medals" a championship of 2 contenders & a field of also rans?

Not sure if you've missed the fact that the constructors, under Bernie's plan, would still get points as usual. It's just the drivers that would win the WDC through wins.

So basically if you have a totally dominant car you can be WDC by the 9th race...

I dislike the gold medal idea.

However I think that there is something to be said for awarding points for pole, fastest lap etc

without the Spa scandal Hamilton would have won it by now. In my view he is already champion. a different point system would not have encouraged him any more to go for it in Spa than he already did. So this discussion is a bit unreal for me.

Bernie should stop his manipulations and focus on his job. he should work on HDTV in F1. the signal is so poor compared to the soccer HDTV feeds we get in Europe over the satellites it is a shame.

Have to agree - I'd pay the HD subscription for HD F1.

I'm a big fan of points for pole/fastest lap/all finishers.
I'm not sure the medal system is a good solution. I do like some sort of reward for consistency and reliability to keep you into play, even if you haven't won everything. The extra points for pole/fastest lap might be enough of a motivator to go for the speed, and not just the safe bet.

What id like to see is additional points awarded for Fastest laps, Poles and Most Passes in the race.

So what id propose is this:

Fastest Laps: 3 Points
Pole Posistions: 2 Points
Most Passes (for posistion) in the race: 5 points

So Kimi would have 30 extra points this year as he has 10 fastest laps alone.

Id keep the current points system, maybes make it a little diffrent, like this:

10-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

why not have 3 ranking system and 1 big genreal ranking system for driver. In the 3 ranking system you have one for the race result in win, second one is the fastest lap of all the weekend and third one is the overtaking result. Each system give the same amount of point for the general ranking.and the driver with the most point in generl ranking win the wdc

And for constructor we keep the 10-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 point system

Prime numbers are the key so let's have the point system like this:

11-7-5-4-3-2-1 (I know 4 isn't prime).
