I'm not sure whether their Q2 slipstream strategy prioritizing S1 performance was the optimal one. This would make more sense if Carlos followed other cars after overtaking Norris in T1. Anyone to help make sense of this pandemonium?

We don't really have a low DF package ...
I personally prefer it this way actually. Better race pace has been the hallmark of successful packages so far this year.

Agree
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Another testament to the team's brilliant track operations this year...

Renault is better in tracks with low downforce configurations. McLaren had a similar margin to them in Spa, the difference in Monza being that the other teams actually fell even more behind Renault. If we take Spa as a reference, then race-pace will be strong for McLaren. I am also quite certain Renault won't be as strong in Singapore as they have been these last two races.

As for this Q3, that was an absolute joke. McLaren did good to calculate the time and telling Sainz to get on with it, but that was far from an optimal out-lap. That's what makes me believe there was more in the car today, but I don't think it would be enough to beat any of the Renaults anyway.

You know I get it, it's a one off race so we need to save $$$ somewhere ... We'll see if that's true ..tires last a long time @ monza ...

Also, will Norris have difficulty passing cars? Starting from the back he's gonna need good top speed to pass cars easily.

Renault has no downforce, that’s why they’re good at these tracks. McLaren did a good job, race pace should be fine and it could be wet tomorrow.

He could also pass by tyres outlasting them (if it helps?) and in the wet.
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

Sainz's Q2 time was 1.20.202, so 3.5 tenths behind Ric's Q3 time and 1.5 behind Hulk's. I don't think we were that far away from them.

FOM again neglecting Sainz on track, since he was the only car doing a laptime, instead they showed everthing else....No matter if he was not quick enough, he was the only car pushing.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

The Forcast right now shows less than 25% chance of rain after 1pm Italy time. So I suspect it will be a dry race. 100% chance of rain overnight so all the rubber will be washed away. Not sure if that makes the difference on the tires Norris starts on. Don't think there is a high chance that the RBR or STR get a better launch than Norris.

He's quick enough just for the Renaults to tow him around and wait for their tyres to drop off.

FIA should penalize those drivers who were "playing" in the last lap and didnt make it to the end. The whole thing was completely farcical.

Renault has been faster in quali again but we were always caught them in the race. The only thing I wish for is reliability...
